Repair Shop In response to Daphne's request for new sidebar topics, I propose that we start a Repair Shop thread. I restore silver, brass and other metals for a living. I have a friend who cleans and repairs oil paintings. Ten years ago we started a club for people who restore fine objects and within a year we'd met quite a few (27) very interesting people - many of whom lived too far from Orlando to come meet with us, and all of whom were too busy to run a growing club. We don't meet...

I've had this posted on a specialty site called "warbirds" for a few days with no luck, I think due to low traffic there, will try here even though this isn't an antique quite yet. But my question would be the same in 2041 if that helps any. Nomen. marked on tube: US NAVY BUREAU OF ORDNANCE AIRCRAFT TELESCOPE SIGHT-MARK V MOD 1 INSPECTOR H.T.M. NO. 4XXX MADE BY WOLLENSAK OPTICAL CO. ROCHESTER NY 1941 Description: Black enameled telescope tube, large red rubber eyecup,...

Hi, I am trying to figure out the brand of this old hat. Does anyone recognize the brand? I have tried CB & Co and have not been able to find anything at all. The hat is 15" in diameter and made of velvet. Is there a certain name for this type of hat to use for key words in an auction title? The hat rack is stamped K-Venience No 6 Knape & Vogt Grand Rapids, Mich. Do you know if there would be another name other than hat rack that collectors would be looking for & the age of...

Does anyone know an online reference site to ID silverware? All is marked silver or silverplate except the Reed & Barton which is marked for silver content at all? Is there a better board to post this on? Also, does anyone know what the square bottom spoon is for or the tear drop shaped one? All I know is your basic knife, spoon and fork. LOL!Thanks!

These have a "clink" sound almost like pottery when tapped. Do they look like bakelite? I don't have anything handy to compare them too, and I know black bakelite is impossible to test with simichrome. At first glance, I didn't think they were, but now, maybe not sure. I've seen lots of deco chrome and bakelite here and there. I can't imagine what other material they would be. Somewhat cool to the touch, definitely not metal, not basalt or soapstone (I don't think) Help much...

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I really don't know too much about this kind of thing - but I have noticed that there is a similarity with items that sell for quite a tidy sum here on ebay. However, this one is unsigned. Does that make it worthless? Does anyone know how I can find out more about this or where I can ask?

Recently, an Americna friend of mine sent me some pics of his tusk and asked me about its carved words on the bottom. While, it's easy to tell the words, but hard to tell him the truth. So, how do you guys think of this tusk?

Lot four charcoal sketches, possibly studies for murals and WPA (dated 1937 and 1938). As you can see, the images have that exaggerated look that at least I associate with that style, and since they go just about to the whole edge, mural studies seemed likely. Paper size is about 22x36 plus (I forgot to measure when I had them unrolled). Found in FL, but from auction in West Virginia. No other info -- seller couldn't make out sigs either. Tried searching on Kenneth, 1930s, mural,...

See announcements ... just be careful that you don't end up with the first five free and higher Final Value Fee. I use a third party, so it doesn't affect me, but you may want to relist lower cost items to get rid of those five first if you use eBay's SYI. Link

Hello! I am trying to confirm, get additional info on these beautiful candelabras, and hopefully list them. I am trying to sell these for some friends and this is what I have been told: They are handmade, from the 1700s, they are french baroque, brass gilded and there are no stampings whatsoever from what I could tell. Can anybody confirm this, or add, and is there any other places we should be looking for stampings or markings?? Your help is greatly appreciated!! Eva...
