Repair Shop In response to Daphne's request for new sidebar topics, I propose that we start a Repair Shop thread. I restore silver, brass and other metals for a living. I have a friend who cleans and repairs oil paintings. Ten years ago we started a club for people who restore fine objects and within a year we'd met quite a few (27) very interesting people - many of whom lived too far from Orlando to come meet with us, and all of whom were too busy to run a growing club. We don't meet...

Hi everyone! Hope ya'll are doing great and ready for the weekend! I have been meaning to ask about this mirror for a while. Not sure if it is an antique or just vintage but I thought I would start with you guys since I have received help in the past. This cool, heavy metal mirror, has a neat metal back (never seen that before). There are small Fleur de Lys' (Lis) on each corner. What I find interesting is the over kill on the words "Pat. Pending" on the back of each one of the leaf...

I recently aquired an old cast iron skillet with minimal markings. It's 10 5/8" in diameter, 3" deep and has a cast iron lid with drip "dings" inside. The only stampings I can find are on the bottom; No. 8, 10 5/8. The casting of the lid is identical to older lodge cookware I have seen, but the pan doesn't have Lodge stamped on it. Can anyone shed some light on who made this skillet?

I've had this vase for 7 or 8 years now. I'd love to get it listed but I don't have any history on it. I've found geneology charts and stories. This one is from the book "Paradise Lost". Link I'm trying to figure out who Elwyn Christian was in relation to Fletcher. The only "Elwyn" I have found is Leonard Elwyn, born 1909, died 1981. Any help or information at all would be great. I know it probably belongs on the History board, but it moves so slowly over there. It could be 2 days before...

I am gobsmacked at the low prices I am getting for most things and I am wondering whether people don't believe my descriptions. I am losing money left, right and centre. The latest disaster is a Hiroshige print at £29. Even my dearest current lot, the snuff box is less than I paid for it 20+ years ago.

I won this silverplated saute pan with liner for the opening bid of .99 and bought it because it was so cheap. I thought maybe I could use it to serve bananas foster table side for dinner parties, but what is its real purpose? The handle unscrews and the liner comes out? any ideas

Oh, I'm LIVID! Last evening, I went to the mall..to purchase a gift card for my niece. Well, I saw a window display of "faketiques". Being in the biz...I was compelled to go inside this large store. Un-be-liev-able. Cheesy knockoffs of 18th-19th century furniture, prims and etc. THe furniture was all flimsy pine(maybe), with "not-quite-right" attempts at bittersweet and milk paint colors. Each "scuffed" in the right places. Sickening. The cheery owner asked if I needed help.I wanted to tell...

I'm sure the colleges insurance company will make them restrict access to the students. Which means either they hire people to continue the archiving or it takes 20 times as long. CNN link. Title of the article if you want to go to CNN instead of clicking the link is "Student charged with stealing rare docs". Link

I am looking for information on this company, especially the years they were in business. Am going to attend an auction with a blue banded stoneware water cooler( three pieces) with a rooster , with the word "RUSO" on it. Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated. ?

I am not quite sure what this is. It appears to be some type of metal & it is approx. 5" tall. I thought I saw a mark on the bottom, however after examining the photos I am not able to make anything out. I took some close-up photos & hopefully someone can help me out. I would like to know what it is & what it is made of. Also does anyone see a mark, or are my eyes playing tricks on me?
