Note: If this thread gets off the ground, there are likely to be SPOILERS in here so don't read if you don't want to know what happened in the book! Well, I stayed up until 1:30 a.m. last night to finish Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - it was so good! Anyone else finished with it yet...??? what did you think?! I'm glad it didn't have quite the unfinished ending as Book IV, now waiting for the next book won't be quite so annoying... but I know it will be a l-o-n-g...

Heading to the Oregon coast this weekend to watch the stroms from our hotel room. Does anyone have recommendations for a good book (I would like a real page turner) that takes place near or on the ocean, sea, beach or islands. A lighter read that is not too long would be nice. Thanks!!

Here's how it works: I name a tile of a book, and the next person names another title that uses a word from my title. Like this: My title: The World According to Garp ~John Irving Next person's title: Around the World in 80 Days ~Jules Verne (No using easy words like "the" or "of" or "and") If it gets impossible, name something by the same author. I'll go first: Diaries of Adam and Eve ~Mark Twain

W-O-W! I just finished the first book, (Twilight,) in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Saga and I am so hooked!! I'm a diehard Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel fanatic so this is right up my alley. Plus I'm still a total suckers for stories set in high school. Perhaps I never grew up?? Anyway - I'm hoping there are others who have read this b/c I need to chat! I've carved out my own little corner of the Web...

When I was in elementary school over 30 years ago, we used to order paperback books through the schools book club (don't remember what it was called). I think we had the opportunity of ordering once a month. Paperback books cost about 50 or 75 cents each. I'm interested in knowing, if you recall any of the titles of the books you (or your parents) bought. I think it would be interesting to see what types of books we read back then. One of the books I recall, is called "Crackerjack...

I'm not big on self-help books because you usually have to wade through chapters and chapters of case histories and other padding to FINALLY get to the book's message -- which often as not, turns out to be useless to me. However, I have read a couple of self-help books which, (despite their verbosity), have good and useful messages: "The Dance of Anger," which explains that relationships are like dances: two people locked in patterns of behavior. If you want the other person to change...

I have been reading the Old Testament -- heavy duty reading. However, it is so exciting -- even with all the weird names of children. Jesse was the father of David. Who was the father of Jesse? silverteemIsaiah 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God:I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

My son has gone from a spiritual boy who believed everything happened for a reason, to a child who feels life was an accident, there is no purpose to life and the world is just made up of atoms. I am looking for a book to help him with the meaning of life - a 16 year old - not religious please. I don't mind spiritual, but he will not read it if it is religious in nature. Thanks for any suggestions!

Has any one else signed up with the Library of America and ordered books from their website? (www.loa.org). It seems professional and completely legit, but I've been waiting almost a month for 5 books. Secondly, can anyone recommend a personal favorite Lincoln biography? I'm looking for something that delves deep into his character and not just the events that shaped it. Thanks!
