For all of us who are bidding on a copy of "A New Earth" and just see the price going higher and higher, you should consider giving up and just buying it outright. I just bought a copy of 2008 printing, including shipping for $10.93.

Started to re-read this horror tale by Howard, and it could be the October month and the associated atmosphere, but whatever, I am only half way through and I am pretty sure I am going to be re-reading this one as soon as I finish. Hopefully in one sitting. I miss being able to read a story in one sitting. It sometimes does a disservice to the story to break it up a few times.

I"m just wondering if anyone has heard anything about Lillian Jackson Braun. Her last book, "The Cat Who Had 60 Whiskers", didn't ring true as her having written it, especially during the last few pages. Has she passed away, or maybe an illness of some kind? The last of the book sounded as though it was written by a ghost writer or someone just trying to finish it up quickly. It was the first book of hers that I was disappointed with.

I figured this was the correct board to relate my real estate agent story. When we were going to sell our old house, the real estate agent did a walk-through. In the living room, he said, "You'll need to de-clutter." I said, "I can do that." I thought he meant get the magnets off of the fridge, etc.. but he looked at my bookcases in the living room and said "Some people view books as clutter." I gasped in horror, "What kind of people think of books as clutter?"

The macho movie star says, "I'll Be Back!" in his starring role in one of the popular movies. Another star, the Morning Star, says, "He will return!" Those who love His appearing anxiously await His return to earth a second time. Have you ever read the Book of Revelation? As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. Joshua 24:15Isaiah 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God:I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee...

This is a worthy article about the gradual loss of bookstores; first small bookstores, and now, big bookstores such as Borders. The first factor is big box stores like Costco, Target, and Sam's Club sell more and more books at deep discounts. The second, perhaps lesser, factor is that less adults are buying books. This line from the article will offend almost everyone who comes to Book Readers: Making matters worse for stores that depend on book sales, fewer Americans are buying books....

I found a copy of Helene Hanff's The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street and as with 84, Charing Cross Road and Q's Legacy the book is utterly charming. If you love books find a copy of 84, Charing Cross Road and read it. I just checked the river and there are copies as cheap as 11 cents plus shipping. 11 cents! An insult to this fine, fine book. Read it. You will not be disappointed. The book will stay with you forever. Pretty good movie also with Anthony Hopkins and Anne Bancroft. In my...

A Confederacy of Dunces is one of my favorite books. I think I've given copies of it to about 15 people. I gave it to my son to read about three years ago (he was about 15) and, to this day, he can always make me laugh by mentioning something from the book. It's really a laugh out loud book. Not really for reading in public because it's just so funny you can't help but laugh.

My brother and I have been reading the books on Modern Library's 100 best fiction books of the 20th century. This book (actually it is a series of 12 books) is on THE LIST (that's how we refer to it) and it is a wonderful series. Of course, I was slightly irked when I realized I have to read 12 books because it only counts as 1 (ONE) on THE LIST.

loved the first three books. I have always been a fan of Bella and Edward, but I liked how Meyer introduced the Jacob/Bella dynamic to show the complexity of relationships, and that love means SACRIFICE and making a CHOICE. Plot, character, and substance related issues I've had with the series were compensated by the message I believed Meyer wanted to make--Bella choosing to give up a normal life (and everything that comes with it) in order to be with Edward. Now, I don't know what message...
