Note: If this thread gets off the ground, there are likely to be SPOILERS in here so don't read if you don't want to know what happened in the book! Well, I stayed up until 1:30 a.m. last night to finish Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - it was so good! Anyone else finished with it yet...??? what did you think?! I'm glad it didn't have quite the unfinished ending as Book IV, now waiting for the next book won't be quite so annoying... but I know it will be a l-o-n-g...

Heading to the Oregon coast this weekend to watch the stroms from our hotel room. Does anyone have recommendations for a good book (I would like a real page turner) that takes place near or on the ocean, sea, beach or islands. A lighter read that is not too long would be nice. Thanks!!

Here's how it works: I name a tile of a book, and the next person names another title that uses a word from my title. Like this: My title: The World According to Garp ~John Irving Next person's title: Around the World in 80 Days ~Jules Verne (No using easy words like "the" or "of" or "and") If it gets impossible, name something by the same author. I'll go first: Diaries of Adam and Eve ~Mark Twain

W-O-W! I just finished the first book, (Twilight,) in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Saga and I am so hooked!! I'm a diehard Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel fanatic so this is right up my alley. Plus I'm still a total suckers for stories set in high school. Perhaps I never grew up?? Anyway - I'm hoping there are others who have read this b/c I need to chat! I've carved out my own little corner of the Web...

When I was in elementary school over 30 years ago, we used to order paperback books through the schools book club (don't remember what it was called). I think we had the opportunity of ordering once a month. Paperback books cost about 50 or 75 cents each. I'm interested in knowing, if you recall any of the titles of the books you (or your parents) bought. I think it would be interesting to see what types of books we read back then. One of the books I recall, is called "Crackerjack...

I'm not big on self-help books because you usually have to wade through chapters and chapters of case histories and other padding to FINALLY get to the book's message -- which often as not, turns out to be useless to me. However, I have read a couple of self-help books which, (despite their verbosity), have good and useful messages: "The Dance of Anger," which explains that relationships are like dances: two people locked in patterns of behavior. If you want the other person to change...

My first favorite book I read in about 2nd grade was called " Blue Berries for Sal" I got it for my daughter and now she has it and reads it to her daughters. I also loved the "Bobbsey Twins " By Laura Lee Hope and Nancy Drew Mysteries, By Caroline Keene. The book I ever read and have a copy of was called "Shepherd of the Hills" by Harold Bell Wright. It was my most favorite. More for teens and really an adult book. I also liked the James Herriot series and Another favorite was Watership...

I have been reading the Old Testament -- heavy duty reading. However, it is so exciting -- even with all the weird names of children. Jesse was the father of David. Who was the father of Jesse? silverteemIsaiah 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God:I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

My son has gone from a spiritual boy who believed everything happened for a reason, to a child who feels life was an accident, there is no purpose to life and the world is just made up of atoms. I am looking for a book to help him with the meaning of life - a 16 year old - not religious please. I don't mind spiritual, but he will not read it if it is religious in nature. Thanks for any suggestions!

Has any one else signed up with the Library of America and ordered books from their website? (www.loa.org). It seems professional and completely legit, but I've been waiting almost a month for 5 books. Secondly, can anyone recommend a personal favorite Lincoln biography? I'm looking for something that delves deep into his character and not just the events that shaped it. Thanks!

Hi! I'm hoping someone can help me with a couple of questions concerning Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer books. 1) I'm looking to purchase the Little Golden Book and I'd like to ensure I get the original 1958 version (I understand there have been numerous reprints). There are several listed right now and I'm a little confused. Some sellers state the book is the "D" edition (I've also seen books described as the "I" edition)--I have no idea what that means. Also, some books have the price...

I bought this large old painting from an estate sale about a three years ago. It is of three musical angles. I got home and hung it in the hallway. One night while praying I ask God to let me see things that was important in my life. I got up to get some water and behold, I saw hidden pictures inside this old painting. One was of Jesus holding a child and a man standing behind them with the look on his face that he was in hell. I ask others if they could see the hidden pictures, no one could,...

I'm still not sure of the correct title. It was signed by author & Dorothy Dix. Mary Livermoore & Dorothy Dix were friends in the civil war. They published books in the same year & signed them. Greetings all! Hope this hasn't been asked before and was buried under pages of threads ... Is there really life (reading) after Twilight? (LOL) I got so hooked on those books. I am sad to report that Stuart M. Kaminsky has passed away. The prolific author created four unique detectives who were featured in their own series of books: Porfiry Rostnikov, Abe Lieberman, Lew Fonesca and (my favorite) 40's Hollywood detective Toby Peters. If you are a fan of the genre, you might find his books enjoyable. Thank you, Mr. Kaminsky.
