October 1999-I discovered eBay. A site where an honest Seller could get fantastic exposure to sell a few unwanted items I had laying around. February 2000-Yes,life was good. It was fun selling and I enjoyed researching the items, writing the auctions and communicating with the buyers from all over the world. I start listing a few more items every week and actually purchase items for resale. I was actually making a little money! August 2000-It has been fun selling on eBay and actally...

We wanted to take a moment to update you about a change to how long you may stay signed in to the eBay Community Forums (such as the discussion boards, chat rooms, eBay Groups, or the Answer Center) without activity. After you sign in, if you are "inactive" or "idle" for roughly an hour, you will be automatically logged out. After being logged out, you'll still be able to view threads and read posts, but to post, report a post, or vote in a poll, you'll just have to sign in back again. This...

1) Advice on the new way to list Insurance on new listings. Should I say "included in shipping and handling" which I guess it is since paypal will make me pay, or just indicate "not offered". I will not be buying insurance on most of my items, so I don't want buyers to be upset that I am 'self insuring' most items 2) second question if eBay disallows offering "option insurance" payment by buyers - why didn't they just DELETE that from all their listings as of the 22nd? I know they...

Does anyone know if a seller can purchase a 3rd party insurance (like DSI) and use it only on international shipments? I sell internationally and in the US. You can't purchase insurance on international packages through USPS unless it is sent Priority or Express. I still want to be able to insurance my first class international airmail packages. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

I sell most of my items with free shipping/handling. Insurance has always been an option for the buyer. I do purchase tracking and print my labels through Ebay/Paypal. As purchasing insurance would drive the price of my items higher than my competition, I do not plan to insure my sold items in September when the insurance option change takes place. Does anyone know if it will be against Ebay rules if I add to my descriptions, saying I do not insure my packages but that buyers will be receiving...

I'm attempting to change my auction template under International Shipping to reflect ebay's new insurance rules. I want to make sure I am following the rules. This is my the new info below, does this look OK? Can I say "no insurance" for 1st class international mail? or is that against ebays rulesINTERNATIONAL PAYMENT: PayPal only. Customs value will be the sale price of the auction, I can not mark customs forms as 'gift' or for a lesser value. Buyers are responsible for paying any of their...

I would appreciate any advice on this issue. Buyer purchases a musical instrument of substantial value ($2,000.00.) Item is shipped fully insured, professionally packed by UPS itself in addition to item's hardshell case (Pack & Promise guaranteed.) Buyer receives shipment, signs for it and then asserts item damaged in shipment. Buyer takes pictures of allegedly damaged item. UPS is called for claim. Buyer is instructed to retain boxing/packing materials and agrees. Buyer is instructed...

I really want to give this buyer the benefit of the doubt, but I am concerned about a situation and could use some input. I sold two heavy glass items in August to a buyer with about 70 feedback, all of it positive. One item was a three piece set; the other, a compote. I shipped USPS Priority via Paypal shipping label, insured for the full amount, which was around $75 including shipping. I've been selling on ebay since late 1998 and have never had anything break - this was my very first...

eBay has received reports that fraudulent internet escrow sites have been created to entice buyers and sellers to enter into "safe" eBay transactions. In some cases, these websites claim to be affiliated with eBay, and may without authorization display the eBay logo. eBay recommends that its users use only eBay's recommended escrow partner when engaging the services of an escrow service for an eBay transaction. In the United States, that partner is www.escrow.com, a licensed and bonded...

Given the questions and concerns that I've seen here and there on the boards about moderation and Boards policy, I recently spent some time in a Q & A session. As this was an impromptu, informal gathering, it did not involve much prior notice. It was a productive conversation, but I think there are still some more questions and concerns that could be addressed. And I would like to open this up for additional input from those who weren't able to join us yesterday. To read the earlier...

Hello everyone, a category 4 hurricane - Katrina - made landfall early this morning just slightly to the east of New Orleans. Many thousands of people were evacuated and still others are in temporary shelters until the worst is over. Since New Orleans is below sea level predictions are for large amounts of flooding. It may be days or even weeks before people are able to return to their homes. In areas east of New Orleans, extending into Mississippi members may face similar devastation from the...
