I noticed there's a lot of questions surrounding the Payment Reminder emails and what the changes really mean to the buyer's experience. If I may, let me take you through the buyer's experience:

If the seller has opted out of Automatic UPI scenario:

AUCTION ITEM:
1. The buyer wins an Auction, and immediately receives an email notifying them that they have won the item (Buyer Successful email).
2. 48 hours later if the item is not paid for, buyer receives an email reminding them that they have not yet paid for the item (Payment Reminder email).

BIN/SIF ITEM:
1. The buyer buys an item (ie. BIN or SIF), no emails are sent immediately.
2. 48 hours later if the item is not paid for, buyer receives an email reminding them that they have not yet paid for the item.(Payment Reminder email). Please note that this is the first and only time a buyer will receive an email reminding them to pay.

I really, really, really don't want this notice going out to my buyers - many of them buy several items over the week and we both like to wait for all of the items to end before a combined invoice is sent.

If a customer wins an item and then sends me a message telling me that they are bidding on more, I tell them "no problem" - I will hold off invoicing them until the subsequent bidding ends.

I especially don't want it being sent to my international customers! The U.S. has a reputation for being loud, brash and insensitive (rightly or wrongly). If an international buyer who is bidding on further auctions over the week receives some sort of "reminder notice" (I would informally call it a "deadbeat letter"), I am concerned about how they will react to it.

Please rethink this practice. For the many of us who want to opt out of the reminder notices, please let us do this in advance of listing our items.

I respect the sellers who want to have these notices sent out automatically. But I would also like the ability to choose to opt out of this in advance, rather than have a customer receive one automatically after 48 hrs. I then have to go through hoops of opting out and apologizing to my customer for the EBay message.

What's the point of the communication DSR after all of these "consistency improvements"?

I'm often selling to 'good ole boys' using their "dear wife's" ebay account for car parts.......... I am "in tune" with the verbiage my customers understand and want to hear.

I don't receive many money orders, but I don't want these customers harassed when it takes 5 or 10 days for me to receive in the mail.

Communication is not a one-size-fits-all application.

I'm severely disappointed in this decision.

Apologies for not being entirely clear.

Sellers can not opt out of the 48-hour payment reminder email.

If a Seller is opted in Automatic UPI, then a 96-hour payment reminder email will be sent.
If a Seller is opted out of Automatic UPI, then there will be no reminder email sent at the 96-hour mark.

The 48 and 96 hours are calculated from when the item is sold/won.

First of all: to Devan and Lilo from EBay, I thank for your replies.

Unfortunately, I don't think EBay is thinking this through for those of us who have asked you to reconsider.

You still have time to modify this policy and add the advance opt out decision. Many sellers and buyers have replied to this thread but many others have no idea that this forum exists or know that we have only a small window of time to send our comments.

I would hope that the EBay folks here would listen to our explanations as to why some sellers would want to opt out of this plan in advance.

What if a seller doesn't use eBay's checkout?

Buyer wins item. Pays immediately NOT thru eBay checkout.
eBay can't see this, so it sends multiple payment reminds.
Seller gets email or worse from angry buyer.
