The decoration of these looks a lot like a class of Chinese Export Porcelain from about the 1730's to the 1750's. Paintings of Europeans on Chinese Export Porcelain has been popular for some time, and tends to be quite well painted, and potted, so therefore it is very expensive, and as a result has been faked with varying degrees of success. Whether something has a look of age or not, doesn't mean they are old, and it does seem odd that characters written on them would be in Japanese, not Chinese, unless the characters were added at some later point, but that would not be very likely to me, if they were period. If I had these plaques I would take them to an expert at a museum that has specialists in Asian Decorative Arts, or send the pictures to an good Auction House that has or uses specialists in Asian Decorative Arts.
