Re: Can someone help me with this mark?

I'm sure there are several posters who would really like to help, but your picture needs to be better focused to be able to see what you are describing. Does your camera have a macro setting (often shown as a flower or tulip?)

It doesn't sound like any silvermarks I am familiar with, but there are plenty of countries' marks I don't know much about.

It would also help to have a picture of the whole item on which this mark appears.

Thanks! Here is a picture of the teapot and another of the mark-it is missing the top and I am trying to figure out if it has any value or if the mark might mean it is silver. I am really trying to get a good picture of it but it is so shiny that it is difficult. Thanks for any help you might be able to give me!

You do need sharper pictures, I can't see them very well, sorry. I think I see an 800?

Many countries used that as a solid silver mark.....

I know but for some reason I just cant get this to be clearer. It definately says 9.00 and then a small case k. and I have seen silver marked with with 800 or 925 etc but have not seen any marked with 9.00-Thanks for looking at it, I will keep trying to get a better pic.

I tried both pics and came up without an image of the whole pot. I'm also with Sue - that sure looks like an 8 to me.

Ah! The small k would probably be for kopek (not sure if I spelled that correctly.) Are you going for Russian, Fid?

if I had spare time, why not ? I like the sound of Russian. soft, a bit like Gaelic.
although: I know I'd never arrive to speak that softly.

Sorry, here is the pic of the teapot

The U looks a little funny, the other letters do not look odd-it could be either UFHA or UEHA, but it is not an 8.00 it is a 9.00 with the little k. The bird that looks like either a peacock or a turkey has a partial circle around it that extends from what looks like one leg. I tried again on the photo but it is no better. I really appreciate everyones thoughts on this.

I could read it as ЦEHA which would mean price in Russian.
9 kopecks would not make sense though -- it's way too small an amount. Nine rubles -- mmmm.... still somewhat low, even for silverplate.

OT--Fid

Is there an easy way of putting special characters/letters like Russian and Greek and umlaut letters in html posts? (I copied the ones in mine from your post.)

The easiest way is to go to your program files, system tools, character map -- a huge slew. Copy and paste: Ă etc. If you're doing more than one or two characters, there are Cyrillic and probably other keyboards on line.

Thanks Birgitta and Fid. I bookmarked the Russian alphabet site.
Switching the keyboard language is another option but finding the right characters becomes a fun guessing game.
