You gotta love it when the item sells for $9.99 and the shipping to Europe is $20.00 of which PP takes their 3% cut.

It seems like someone "up there" recognizes the inevitable collapse of their system and has decided to grab as much as possible on the way out.

Eventually it has to happen that some existing or wanting to exist site will emerge and start looking better to sellers and buyers.

I know that at least 80% of the sellers I know would jump ship if they were convinced or at least felt strongly that something came along that they could use that actually got exposure for their items.

I wonder what reaction ebay would have if a significant number of sellers suddenly (and noticeably) migrated to a competing site? Wouldn't it be great to see say 50k accounts close in a week and reopen with the same username elsewhere.

No doubt a move towards sellers offering free shipping.

This is rot & forces sellers to charge handling fees so buyers will lose too.

I didn`t realise until I read this link that top rated sellers get a 20% discount on final value fees & this peeves me too as it`s another attack on small or part time sellers like me who fulfill all the criteria to be a "top rated seller" but do not sell enough items to qualify. Surely a top rated seller should be judged on the service they provide & customer satisfaction & not the number of pieces they list.

I guess I`ll give trocadero a try.

"No doubt a move towards sellers offering free shipping."

I don`t think that`ll make any difference as the cost will just be included in higher fixed prices or opening bids so ebay/paypal will get their extra coin anyway, otherwise, as I mentioned in my previous post, sellers will be forced to charge handling fees to cover the 3%. Either way seller & buyer both lose & ebay/paypal gain, at least in the short term.

I think that free shipping is an excellent idea.

Perhaps we should establish a popular movement to storm the USPS, UPS, FedEx, etal, and force them to take and deliver our packages for nothing.

There's no such thing as free shipping though; the seller is paying those costs regardless of how they're presented in the listing (and is passed on to the buyer).

Free ain't free.

The folks who are giving free or reduced shipping costs in order to place higher in the searches or to appeal to more buyers have just included those costs within the base price.

The seller, in most cases, has little or no profit from shipping costs (except the gougers); therefore, the seller is being penalized monetarily for something over which they have no control.

In my state, when someone has a direct sale transaction, the seller cannot charge sales tax on shipping; isn't this the same thing? A FVF on shipping would be the equivalent of a tax; it's just semantics.

The Ranch, the River, and Betsy are all more attractive and becoming even more so as time passes.

I have two other sales venues and they move slowly because they are relatively low fee, but the down side is they don't have the advertising that Ebay used to do, so nobody knows their name. I even offered once on a chatboard to spearhead a seller advertising campaign and had some folks interested.

If Egypt can do it, so can we. We can use Facebook and other social media to help advertise.

Now, if only we can all agree on a venue.

How long will it be before this thread is pulled?

I am I reading the new policy correctly as far as shipping goes? 9% fee on the shipping and with Paypal 3% on the shipping (both now embedded in the overall Fee) for a total of 13%. So we are paying 13% of something that we only supposed to charge actual cost to the customer. I guess I will bump up listing price by 15% an not sell a thing. Also, this policy will destroy international buying. Tara

I posted a comment on the website using my Ebay ID. How long do you think it will take the bots to find it? Some of you know my email, so if I disappear you will know how to find me. :_|

"eBay will also start holding sellers funds for PayPal payments for sellers with a limited selling history or for those with a "Below Standard" rating."

This is great. Since they have tightened up the rules so that the only sellers matching their criteria will soon be bulk sellers of wholesale items, the rest of us will automatically be 'below standard' and our meager profits can be held.

Yikes.

Remember the tv show with the Pa and four brothers on their ranch? (in case people didn't get the connection in a previous post)

I've had some luck selling on that site. They're friendly. The fees are negligible. :) Wally moved over there a long time ago.

the first part of withholding funds for new seller as been around for a least a year. I started another ebay id a year ago for consignment items and got a shock when they held my funds until positive feedback or 21 days or reach 100 items yadda yadda. Even though the money was linked to my one and only established Paypal account...called about and was stonewalled. Tara

I read that too, you might remember I had a payment held a couple of months ago & moaned here about it but as long as your DSR`s remain high, no buyers complain & you`ve sold more than 25 items, (before it was 100) you should stay "above standard" even if not a "top rated seller", that is of course until they change the rules again!

They are being generous as well & will release funds to pay for postage whilst they hang on to the rest so sellers who charge $200 shipping fees will be OK.

I don't know why this is a surprise. As I've been saying for the last couple years, Donahoe and his yes men have stated flat out that they want to get away from the small seller and auction format and more to the big box reseller type seller with BIN's. What he doesn't realize is that most of his buyers are NOT looking for that and once he's run off the small sellers (who are also buyers for the most part) then the buyers will be gone too. Ebay supports can "RAH RAH" all they want, but it's going to get to the point where the only thing keeping Ebay alive is Paypal.

I was thinking . . . isn't what they are doing actually charging for using another *store*, IE: USPS, UPS, etc.?
How can they take money for something that has nothing to do with them?
That's like having to pay more interest to a CC company for buying pantyhose with cash!

Or, like a B&M store charging you a percentage for the gas you would use to get your item to the store!
