Any chance you can focus in on and possibly enhance the text being worked on for the one tilted up?

That's a really interesting photo!

How big is the picture? Do you have a scanner? You might be able to get a better image of it by scanning it and enhancing it that way.

I'll try tomorrow (day light). It's difficult to get a close up without glare because it is a photograph. But I will try during sun light in the morning.

Thank you for the reply.

It is a great photo. Interesting to me that someone took it in the first place. No, I don't have a scanner.

The picture measures approximately 9 3/4" x 7 3/4".

Also, you could try looking at it through a magnifier to see if you can read dates or anything else being carved on that stone.

Oh, I have checked with a magnifier. Name on stone looks like "Redlee" but nothing else is easy to read. There's light coming in from the window which makes the writing on the headstone impossible to see. I checked the picture on the wall with the same results - nothing.
Why do you think this photo was even taken in the first place?

"Occupational" photographs are a great window into how things used to be done. We've seen a number of them here. Sal will love this one.

Maybe it was taken to document the work the men were doing? I'm not sure.

It's now considered an occupational photo, and those are often desirable. It looks like the edges might have been trimmed -- were they? Even if they were you could find a buyer for it if you were inclined to sell it.

What does the back of the photo look like? Is it glued to something? I wondered because of the brown color around the edges....

It's entirely possible that this scene is from a Vermont monument maker. Vermont granite has long been the "material of choice" for headstones and it's been a booming industry up there for well over 100 years.

The link shows the back. The photo was glued to the cardboard-type back. The edges of the back material fell off as I touched it (I did cut off the ragged edges w/out cutting the picture). Tthis picture was hidden for who knows how long. I'm too afraid to try to take it off the backing; don't want to ruin the photo.

Yes, I will be listing. I absolutely love it but I'm forcing myself to let it go. Trying hard to whittle down all my stuff.
