OT - Weekend to forget. Need advice on another BIN query

Nov 22, 2009 6:15 PM
I'm selling something for someone else. This is usually where I get into trouble. Person made an offer but wants me to delist and relist at the price they want to pay. Trouble is, there are two watchers. Suppose they want to pay full price? On the other hand, they might not even bid. This person is saying the offer is only good tonight and if I wait, they won't buy it. The owners are dithering and want me to make their decision. I'm fretting. The amount the guy wants to pay is the same amount as the opening bid, but he doesn't want to wait four more days for it. I don't know why these odd situations seem to be coming up for me this week when I never had them before. Is the moon in Pisces or something?

What would you guys do?

I would tell them its an auction and the highest bid wins and that you don`t end auctions early.

If they want it badly they will bid.;)

Bev, I've done it before, but I don't recommend it! Ebay will charge you again for relisting it, and the buyer probably knows that once you get a bid, you can't change it or end it without a good excuse.

I don't know, I'm a little wary on these people that ask!

yeah, but the kids I'm selling it for really want the money. I hate being in the middle. Every time I sell something for someone else, there seems to be a glitch and with my head cold, what few brain cells I have left are glazed over. I spent a day and a half in bed and feel like I could use at least one more.

:) Thanks. I kind of hate being pushed and this person has messaged me eight times about this item. The more pressure I get, the more I put on my mulish brakes. I just didn't want to make a bad decision on someone elses behalf. This is actually a relist, too. He wanted it for even less than he's offered this time on the first listing. I just feel that there's another agenda here.

As far as which item, it's easy. Which of these things isn't like the others? You know what I sell here - Mom's stuff from the attic. :) Whenever I sell things for other people, it's wa-a-a-y different from my old stuff.

Oh, I think I know, (the print?) You have that on auction with a bin, all you have to do is add the best offer and put the price you'll take in the best offer box. No additional costs to you.

For that much money, I would take it!

And if that is it, make sure you get a signature delivery confirmation!

If you really want to take the OFFER then I would just as Chevy said. No bids yet so you can change it.

I didn't know I could do that. I knew someone here would have answers.

They had their hopes up for more money. It's sold out everywhere, even on the artists site. It was so popular, he's created a second version of it. You'd think this one would have appreciated. I think that was their hesitation. If someone wants it so badly, there must be a better market.

You could let it ride then and maybe check out the possiblity of selling in thru a gallery or auction house if it doesn't sell here.....I think like you do that it should be worth more than the price of the new one The Embrace II
Is this the first time you've listed it or have you tried once before?

I did a 5 day list and had four watchers, but no bid. This is the relist

I went in to edit but it won't let me alter the auction format to include a best offer, or if so, I can't find the right menu. I reduced the number of days and messaged the guy. If he wants it, he can bid right now and he'll probably be the only one. It ends in 12 hours. That's my best compromise at the moment.

God, this is like rocket science. This is why I can't play poker. I have not got the patience for all these various permutations. My parents loved having a second hand store and going to flea markets because they loved the give and take of haggling. It's too bad they didn't live to experience Ebay. They'd have loved it.

You can't change the format but you could reduce the BIN price to what the best offer was......Hope this isn't some flake! GL

Ah, but reducing the BIN price per Ebay forces the opening bid to 10% less than BIN. That gives buyers the option to bid at that price and then my sellers wouldn't get their minimum after all.

what to do? RUN!

sounds fishy to me. why can't they wait? What's with the urgency TONIGHT!?

Just let it ride. if they want it that bad they'll wait it out
