The Official "What Is IT?" thread - Take 2

Jul 9, 2002 9:35 AM
Hello folks!

This is the NEW "What is IT?" Thread! You are invited to share your odd items that you need help identifying here.

Please please try to post a picture of your item when using this thread! :) A picture says a thousand words, and it's very very hard to identify a difficult item without an image. :) To make it more gallery-like, use the img src html tag to pull the image up within the post:

I am so sorry that the original thread we had running is gone. I made an biiiiiiig boo boo, and pulled the original thread when I was attempting to do some maintenance. 40,000 lashes with a wet noodle for Daphne! :(

haha@bamaj1! You are right.. that was a bit light. I threw in a few bamboo shoots up my fingernails, too. ;)

I have no idea what that is, but I'm very intrigued! Whatever it is for, it looks like it would help you get your aggressions out while using it. ;)

i don't know how to do pictures, sorry. that other thing looks like it's for embroidery, but doesn't everything? as for my thing, i keep getting huge offers on it by email, which makes me think it's specifically something, as opposed to what you see...i would appreciate any help here, as i'm a bit uncomfortable with this situation.

Japanese bronze bell? This bell was uncovered in my mom's house -- purchased at auction in the mid-1970s. It's 29 inches tall, bronze, apparently Japanese, from a temple? There are NO resources on the net for finding out what this is worth. Is it a national treasure? Any help will be eagerly accepted!

bama is the item you have pictured got like the top piece so you could maybe put a razor blade in it for trimming shaving , i have an item almost exactly like that but mine also has a little wooded wheel in between handle and and the U part the top holds a razor (one of those half ones ) and if you put the wheel against a surface the blade rides level and you push and it shaves kinda . Great for leather work sometimes.

Actually, the bell is a lot bigger than the link, but I just found out today what it's worth and a little bit about it. Thanks! I may be posting it on Ebay for sale, if I can figure out a way to deliver it to the buyer!

Good Morning All!
I found this "thingy" in the bottom of a box of cast iron pans that I bought at an auction, so I am assuming it might be kitchen related. Other than that, I am stumped!

The tapered "dowel" is made of wood, the thin strip against it is some light weight metal and is held against the dowel by a spring. You depress the plunger to move it away. The handle is wood and is painted light green. Help!!

Could someone please tell me if these are peaches or oranges on this coaster. I think they are peaches but I am not certain.
