Why is this Backstamp BLACKED OUT?

Can anyone tell me why this backstamp is blacked out with another gold double heart stamp over the original green backstamp? The other backstamp is a Prov Saxe ES Germany. Thanks so much!

OK looked. My thought was that the plate was bought as a blank and the decorator covered over the manufacturers mark.

Decorating companies could buy blanks from a number of sources, add uniform decoration and resell the pieces as sets. For uniformity and to take full credit for the pieces, they would simply overprint the name of the maker of the blank with the decorator's own opaque mark.
