good morning,

I picked this item up at a thrift shop for a buck and thought I could take it home, put some batteries in it and figure out what it does. However it doesn't appear to take batteries.  When you take the bottom plate off it has a metal chute-like piece in it.  It has an on-off switch, mute button, and volume dial.  It's about 4" tall, 3" wide and less than an inch deep.  It also has a belt clip.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

It's an abused, Escort SOLO radar detector.
