eBay Bucks Beta - Redemption of earned Bucks certificates

Jul 8, 2009 10:32 AM
Hi everyone:

As of July 9th, we've begun our first redemption period for the eBay Bucks Beta program. If you are enrolled, and have earned eBay Bucks during the first earn period (April 1 through June 30, 2009), you should receive a notification email with your eBay Bucks certificate that you can redeem/spend.

You can redeem the Bucks on any eligible eBay purchase that accepts PayPal for the next 30 days - from now through August 8th, 2009.

This thread will be accessible beginning July 9, and is intended to answer question you may have about redeeming and spending your earned eBay Bucks. Staff members will be regularly checking this thread during business hours.

Note - as communicated earlier - the ebay Bucks Beta launched earlier this year as an invite-only beta program to randomly selected users.

Thanks - we look forward to your comments and feedback.
Regards,

Hagar

Wish I had known it was not automatic to my account- just bought something and was really counting on those bucks to help the purchase. I would not have bought it if I had known I had to wait for an e-mail.
The FAQ didn't say anything about having to wait for an e-mail that you actually got the bucks, it made it seem very automated. Maybe they should put that in there to avoid any future confusion.

You shouldn't have to wait for an email. Just go to My eBay and look in the Buy column for eBay Bucks. Click on that link and you should see your Certificate code on the left side of the page.

Funny - I didn't get an email, but my ebay bucks were automatically deducted from the price of one of my recent purchases without my having done anything.

I also used my bucks and still got charged full amount by Paypal, I won an auction for about $35 including shipping, I had about $28 ebay bucks, the total after bucks were applied was aprox. $7 and today when I looked in Paypal the full price of +/- $35 dollars was charged...

Wow another Ebay feature that's broken I can't say I'm surprised I honestly looked at my paypal account specifically because I wanted to check to see if it actually only charged me the correct amount. LOLS to their credit at least they called it "Beta" unlike the "new and improved search" that finds chinese freight and big powerseller inventory and buries the stuff most buyers are looking for.

Hi Jeepnstangs,

I wanted to respond, as this is something a few users have asked about. I understand the way the transaction details have been displayed in PayPal are a bit confusing.

Though it does show a full amount of an item price + any shipping, ultimately what is being deducted from your PayPal account is just your "out of pocket" amount -- the item and shipping minus the amount applied from your eBay Bucks certificate, so the right saved amount. I agree it is confusing and teams are exploring this, but you should know that you'll pay the right amount, and not the full amount - that latter figure is what is being paid to the eBay seller.

Hope that makes sense, and please stay tuned for any more discussion about it. I'd encourage you to view posts at the original eBay Bucks discussion board also, as that is where most of the posts and responses are now:

When you go to your Paypal account, you can click on the amount and view the transaction. There, you will see how the payment was made and you will note that you only paid the amount minus the eBay bucks.

Hello, Hagar,

I recently used more than $70 ebay bucks in a transaction, but the seller is claiming a problem with the item and want to cancel the transaction. What will happen to the ebay bucks after the transaction is cancelled and payment refunded? Will I be able to use the redemption code again?

Hi dave_jave: Yes, I see your recent transaction that you applied the eBay Bucks toward. If you and the seller agree to cancel the transaction, and the seller refundds your PayPal payment, the eBay Bucks will be restored and go back into your eBay Bucks balance - and yes, you'll be able to use it toward a different purchase.

Hope that answers your question.
Best,

-Hagar

I clicked to pay a seller, and the full amount of the invoice came up--$11 and some change. I scrolled down to the bottom to click continue, and there were my eBay bucks! I didn't think to check my Paypal account, but when they took out the money they took $8.88. I never expected redemption it to be that easy!

Hello, So I had about $5.50 in my Ebay Bucks coupon. So I purchased an item and the $5.50 discount was taking off as it should be. After I payed for it the seller said he had the wrong paypal account connected so I had to cancel the payment. It did not put the $5.50 into my paypal thought. It just went away. So if I buy something else and type in the redemption code should it work again?
