WTH is wrong with people who donate to thrifts?

Sometimes I leave there just sick about what I see. Today there was a beautiful silk tie that had a big food stain and a cigarette burn hole. And TWO St. John pieces...one a SJ Evening purple skirt suit with tons of paillettes/rhinestone bling at the hems...with HOLES everywhere! One huge (over 1" across) right in the front of the top...about waist level. No way someone could have missed that. And four or five holes along the hem of the skirt. The other SJ was an older dress, beautiful but saw at least three big holes.

Other times I've found ties with stains/chunks of food still on them. Baby clothing reeking from the puke spot right on the front of the piece. A nasty poo stain on the back of some pink pants.

WHAT are people thinking when they donate this stuff? THROW IT AWAY, you freaking pigs!

A lot of thrift rag items and that is why they accept them. Granted they should be washed first

I have a pretty strong stomach, but there are things I've seen there that make me want to throw up. Just disgusting sometimes.


I keep my wipes and hand sanitizer in my car at all times.

What about the thrift store that puts out nasty stuff like that? I won't shop at stores like that, it just grosses me out. I can see a little damage, but really nasty stains and multiple holes? That is ridiculous.

My husband refuses to enter thrift stores-- he says the smell is indescribable.... but I think your post just described it lol

Yeah, my next question was...why are the thrifts putting this stuff out? Yuck. This one is seriously overpriced too. There's no way I'm gonna pay their crazy prices for something that nasty.

This is what drives me crazy, too. The employees spend time to price those things and then hang them in the section, just to then waste everyone's time looking them over and rejecting them. Then, the employees have to pull them out however many weeks/months later, take them off the hanger and rag them out.

They could save everyone so much time by ragging the stuff out right from the start.

Yes, the thrift store should never put that kind of stuff out to buy.. Either throw it out or rag in out.

I give stuff to goodwill that is not in good condition but nothing that still has stains on it they use it or ship to a third world country where they wear stuff we wouldn't be caught dead in.

I don't think that I would go back to a thrift shop that had that kind of nasty stuff..

It's funny you bring this up.

I was at a small thrift today and there was a woman training one of the vollunteers. She was showing her where all the different holiday items go, etc.

Then she was showing her that damaged clothing went in the bin to be dropped off at Goodwill. But she told her that if any other the damaged items had buttons, she had to cut them off first because they sell jars full of buttons so they use them to fill the jars.

I say this almost DAILY too!

I find that stores here ONLY put out stuff, in that shabby condition if donations are down, which they are, nationwide...

Employees at the TS that I frequent tend to wear plastic gloves and mask.

Makes you wonder if you are in a hospital or a TS.

I think I can top that.

Was in another town, happened to past a thrift while passing through. Decided to stop in.

I saw a dress (wool blend, I think, I didn't get that close) with crusted on food and SEVERAL tiny bugs eating it.

Grossed me completely out and I left (never to return).

Our major thrift stores here sell unwearable items by the pound for rags, etc. so people are in the habit of donating their nasties along with everything else.

Luckily that kind of stuff rarely shows up in the store, but when it does, the clerks are more than happy to pull it off the shelves if it's brought to their attention.

The baby puke clothing alone would make me run away forever.

Recently, I visited TWO different thrifts in my area and had to walk past the owners/employees sitting right outside the front door smoking...I don't know why...but that grosses me out.
