Initial, Symbol or what ?/ What kind of coating also?

Hi,
I've been trying to figure out if this is an initial, symbol or just what. Others have stated both. One stated a Russian symbol.
A friend of the family said it's a moon and ????
Also were trying to figure out what kind of coating it has on it. It's real shiny and glossy as you can see. Near the handle on the bottom it shows an 8
and an....H...I think.
My questions what's the symbol, what kind of coating, and 8 H ????

I believe it's cast iron. It's heavy. The coating has got me stumped. I know it's not rubber or vinyl...I wouldn't think. It's a really nice skillet. In really good shape as you can see. But, I want to be able to list it w/ more than....NAME IT, PAY IT ,& CLAIM IT :-p

Can't help with the frypan, but the letter is a capital "C" in old English style (can't remember the exact name for that particular style. but it's often used when fancy lettering is wanted in invitations, shop signs, napkins, etc., etc.

lettering sometimes called 'old english' or 'gothic' but not to be confused with the modern typeface called gothic.

I was leaning towards enamel. And at the same time it almost doesn't feel like enamel ?:|

It almost seems to have a feeling of vinyl or rubber but I know it can't be??????? This skillet is being a real challenge

I'm hoping since it's been a challenge that for my own speculation that Ican get some really solid info on it.
Some of the speculation on it so far has been what was already suspected w/out any solid proof to back it up.
If the symbol really is a C I'd wish someone had a link so I could see this particular symbol or initial w/ my own eyes

Thanks so much for the input. I'm not ready to put it on line yet until I can get more solid info for it.
Also I wonder if anyone has thought of the 8 H that is on the back near handle. Considering it measures 9 " ?:|
