Need help with desk set...bakelite or rhodolite????

This is a 5 piece desk set that I found in an old desk that my in-laws had. Is this red bakelite or is it rhodolite or both?

Very difficult to tell from a photo..??

The fact that one of the pieces is a blotter tells me that it is at least 'vintage'..

Thanks for the reply. The top of the blotter is darker than the rest of the red "bakelite." Don't know if that means anything.

Thanks for this tip. I did the hot water test and it does smell like formaldehyde so it is either bakelite or catalin. All the pieces are seamless and riveted. So does this mean that this can be dated somewhere from 1907-1945? And does the bright red color indicate that it is catalin?
