The Official Collectibles "What IS it????" Thread

Jun 30, 2002 10:37 PM
Hello Everyone!

We started this thread on Antiques and it's worked out very well, so I thought we could try it here, too, where we often get people here that have some unique object that they can't identify and who are hoping to find help on our boards!

I thought it would be fun and helpful to have a running thread that we can use to identify these odd objects. We'll keep it pinned to the top of this board, where people who need help can post for it. This way we can all enjoy these items, the guesses, and the good answers that our fellow community members come up with!

So.. this thread is now open for your "whatzit?" needs. ;) It's most helpful if you share a picture, so please try to do that. There are instructions about how to post a picture in another thread at the top of this board.

Enjoy!

Daphne

Hi, does anyone know about my 4-drawer dresser with a marble top? The knobs are wooden shaped pineapple looking.

As Daphne indicated, pictures are worth a zillion opinions of your table, sight unseen. Marble-topped furniture (and the hardware) was common in the late 1800's and has been widely reproduced.

Can someone help me identify the maker of this c. 1940's cookie jar. I know it was purchased by my grandmother in 1945 or so. The bottom is impressed with the following: No 82...The N is a capitol letter the o is small case with two horizontal lines under it. I would appreciate any help that you can give. I also posted this to the Pottery Board, but there have been no responses.

I recently purchased a piece of not so old Fire King at a thrift shop. No one seems to know the pattern. Yellow, orange and brown cross stitch looking flowers. (Not Summerfield) It is a white casserole dish with a clear glass lid. Thanks Donna

Welcome, kemosabibubba .. do you have a way to scan or photograph the item so you can show us a picture?? (you'll need to upload it to the web, too.. see the thread at the top for instructions) With ceramics, the markings can be very useful for folks in the know (they have reference books, etc.), so one picture should be of the bottom. Without an image, it's unlikely anyone can identify this for you. :(

Wall pocket or what? I need help to identify this item for a listing. I think it's a wall pocket. In back has a hole for water and a small nail hole to mount possibly on wall. IT has a brass water spout as well that works. Or is it for a church. Help me if you can to identify. It sure has baffled me ~ Thanks

Hi,
I found this cool half nude black woman in a sensuous pose, in african type attire, porcelain I believe, 4.75" tall with the remains of a very old cork in her head. Bottom says Exclusive Original Made in Italy. Is this a perfume bottle you think? Any help is appreciated.

I have a Scripto vu-lighter with a key inside that I've been told is a Playboy Key. Is anyone out there a Playboy collector? I'll post a pic if I can figure out how.
