"Fantasia" pressbook question
Aug 2, 2012 01:05 PM

Does anyone know why the 1942 RKO pressbook for "Fantasia" was printed in color AND in black & white (I have one of each)?  Was it just a wartime accomodation?  Is there a difference in valuation?  Maybe it is just too esoteric a question, but I can't find any comperables to explain it.    Thanks.

Color printing esp in the 1940s cost much more than black and white.

I would assume  that there are far more black and white than colored books of that age out there.

i think the colored ones would be sent to important reporters

or the entertainment editors of  major newspapers like the los angeles times

while the black and white ones would have been sent out to the small town local papers

(same thing with kits sent to radio stations . the ones with the biggest audience got the better class of goodies)

Thanks ~ that does make sense since they came from a major metro areal

It is strange, though, that for an animated masterpiece like 'Fantasia', they used such muted (and, honestly, mundane) pastel colors on it.
