BUYERS SCAM

Is anyone else getting the buyer that complains the item is not as listed ... but asks for a substantial discount but will not return the item for a full refund?  And threatens a negative report? We think 20% is an adequate discount or a return and suggest that if these buyers are encouraged we will be like a cheap flea market. Our 25 year retail experience in our own shop makes this policy clear to us. Appreciate any opinion.

Starting May 1—get up to 2,500 FREE listings* every month with an eBay Stores subscription

Have come across around a gazillion threads on these boards (well, maybe a little less than a gazillion, but LOTS of threads), especially since Spring 2008, from sellers posting about the same scenario.

If you have a correspondence through ebay's message system from a buyer which reads similar to "I would like/demand/want a XO% discount or I will leave negative FB"... that is considered FB extortion and if they fulfill the threat, the FB is ripe for removal.

Best suggestion I've read [and would be doing too if we were still selling here] is keep your reply short and consistent (keep sending if necessary...ie. buyer attmepts to get you invovlved in a long, drug out dialogue exchange...

Dear buyer,

Sorry that you are unhappy with your purchase. We will refund your full original payment once we receive the item back.

Thank you,

seller

Looked through your completed listings> http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2045576.m570.l1313&_nkw=MANDOLIN+STRING+OVERTONE+GROMMETS&_sacat=619

With No Returns/7 Day/14 Day policies I can only offer standardizing your policy & change your return policy to pay return shipping cost. If a buyer want's a partial simply respond you do not offer that but you'll be happy to pay to have the item returned for a full refund. You can print the label yourself from PayPal and send in PDF format to buyer for them to print.

As already posted, a buyer cannot demand something outside the auction with a threat of poor FB or DSR's> http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/feedback-extortion.html . And as noted the threat must not be vague, it must be explicit, "I would love to work this out with you before leaving FeedBack." vs "I'll leave Negative FeedBack if I don't get this partial refund!"

With your current stats, 99.5% Pos & 4.9 on all stars, you could take an occasional bad FB by saying "No!" but only you know what's best for your business.

Hope this helps!
