LOSING MONEY ON FREE SHIPPING ETC., ETC.

LOSING MONEY ON FREE SHIPPING ETC., ETC.

Just a comment. I have been offering free shipping and rock bottom starting bids. Getting very frustrated because there does not appear to be the volume of viewers looking at my items. When an item does sell I usually either get my starting bid or maybe a dollar or two more. Compared to last year sales are pitiful and no one seems to be buying. With PayPal and e-Bay ridiculous fees there is no money to be made and sometimes I lose money.

Time to go back to charging for shipping and higher starting bids. It is not fair to the buyer? Well if they want an item bad enough they will buy it. But with shipping charges and higher starting bids the buyers will be inclined to not buy. It's a no win situation.

If you put Free shipping you always put that in your starting price + what you want for the item  paypa takes out a Fee even if you put free shipping which is not fair at all

You pretty much will need to add shipping fee, with all the other fees your are paying out and ebay policy now in favor of buyers and the economy in the toilet.

There is no such thing as free shipping. If u don't add it to your listing price u lose $. We tried raising our listing price n offering free shipping. Our sales dropped by over 75%. We now add $1 to $1.50 per order extra to cover cost of shipping, mailers, printer costs, labor n ebays 11% fee. Otherwise u cant profit. Our sales are back up to par. Alot of low dsrs.

I have since reverted back to charging a shipping cost, although not a high rate. I will only offer free shipping on certain cases.

Hey there,

I bet you could save a ton by using Regional Rate Shipping from the USPS. You can head here http://on.fb.me/KOjbar to get a free starter kit.

Reginal only saves money me if the item is heavy. Foster, check out the powerseller board chat about rolling blackouts and server switching. I found it very enlightening (no pun). I think it's under the heading of "Why don't I have sales" or something similar.

Whoever suggested selling overseas... I may have to agree with... but only if I absolutely need to. I checked my blocked buyer list (those who tried to bid/buy but were blocked due to my requirements) and most were overseas buyers. Although I hate shipping and the hassles with overseas, the ship time doesn't factor into my 90% 1 day ship track needed to stay TRS.

I have tried starting bid at one cent free shipping and oops

even then I couldn't even find my item because there were so many of them one cent free ship.

most of the stuff I have sold I have not made profit since I am a small part time seller wanna be who is trying to downsize my closet ect.

I feel for the full time sellers here....

Unless you know your item is going to bid at least to the point where it will cover shipping + time and hassle to ship it then you need to either charge for shipping or increase your reserve/ starting bid.

Otherwise you are just asking for troubles.

As James Carvell said in several past elections, "It's the economy".

People don't have jobs and certainly aren't spending on ebay.
