SLOW PAYING BUYERS

SLOW PAYING BUYERS
Jun 19, 2012 10:25 PM

It is irritating when some buyers are slow to pay. But what really aggravates the situation is when after resubmitting the invoice for a couple days, no response. And after 3 days I send an e-mail reminder (a kind request to please forward payment at their earliest convenience), no response whatsoever, not even an e-mail from the buyer simply stating they will be late paying. When 5 days has passed and no payment still, I will open a non payment case. That usually puts a fire under their ass and I will either receive a response stating they will make payment in a day or two or they will simply just pay it.

The communication from a lot of buyers is terrible. And 98% of the  time these slow paying buyers are new to e-bay.

Anybody else experiencing this trend? When I win a bid or BUY IT NOW I pay immediately. It is really that simple and it makes for a smooth, friendly transaction and both parties are happy.

You might wish to consider lowering your stress level by utilizing the Unpaid Item Assistant.

Set the time frame you wish to initiate the UID process -- If you want to allow just 4 days before a payment reminder is sent, set it to 4. If you want to allow 5 days, set it to 5...etc. etc.

Then just follow through with how the buyer responds. If they pay, ship. If they don't pay, close it on day 4 [ebay may close it automatically if you utilize the UIA instead of doing manual UID filings??? - might want to check on that yourself just to be sure].

When I win a bid or BUY IT NOW I pay immediately.

A fact of life is, we can only control our own actions. We can't control the actions of others. It's one of those "God, grant me..." things [feel free to ignore the religous reference if you find it bothersome]

When we were selling (accepted only snail mail payments), we didn't send our "payment reminder" email until around day 25 or so. Different strokes for different folks.

I did have the UIA. But I changed it so I have to initiate the process. I figured I would rather use my own discretion as to when to file a claim. I have very few non payers. Just some slow payers. That is because during the summer months I decrease my listing volume. My listing volume increases from September to January. Right now I average about 50-55 listings a month. During the holiday months (Sept-Jan) my volume will be about 140-150 a week. Obviously the more I list/sell it stands to reason there will also be more non payers on average. Then I will enable the UIA.

I guess I misinterpreted your OP.

I read it as you were looking for a way to decrease all the work/angst you feel you are having to go through to get people to "pay up". Personally, I'd be skipping..

1)...resubmitting the invoice for a couple days...

2)...And after 3 days I send an e-mail reminder...

and just...

When 5 days has passed and no payment still, I will open a non payment case.

since you already state an expected payment time in your listing ..

PAYMENT SHOULD BE MADE WITHIN 3 DAYS OF AUCTION END
