Could somebody please explain what this board is?

Dec 12, 2003 2:55 PM
The thread started by the Pink does not contain an explaination concerning exactly what the purpose of this board is, etc. Any insight would be appreciated by me.

Just thought that I should add that I have read the explaination at the top of the page, but am still unclear as to what this is. Is the giving Works Board some sort of an organization? Most boards run their own charity auctions, etc. Would they all be relegated to this forum?

dull*women,

Typically, these boards are for folks that have an interest in a specific topic area (in this case charity) to get together and get questions answered, help with problems and anything else they may need. This board has no impact on the other boards.

Hope I answered your question adequately.

John

Hi everyone,

Thanks for asking about the purpose of the eBay Giving Works Discussion Board. Perhaps a couple of historical data points will help provide context around the nature of this Board. Since 1999, hundreds of organizations (both for profit and not-for-profit) have used eBay to raise funds for the causes they care about. Then in 2001, we witnessed firsthand the groundswell of support and generosity of the eBay Community in response to the tragedy of September 11th. In an effort to better serve the needs of our community, we developed a new dedicated fundraising platform (called eBay Giving Works) that launched November 2003. In addition to including a number of value-added features that we think will really help organizations maximize their fundraising results, eBay Giving Works makes it possible for any individual seller to incorporate charitable giving into their selling activity by donating a percentage (10%-100%) of their proceeds to their favorite nonprofit.

To deliver this program, eBay has teamed up with a nonprofit organization called MissionFish. Not only is MissionFish the dedicated service provider of The Giving Assistant, the listing tool for eBay Giving Works, they also provide a number of services that enhance the security, reliability, and accountability of all the charitable transactions that take place through eBay Giving Works. Since this program is new, we hope the board will be used to provide tips and share best practices as well as to provide us with feedback and recommendations about the eBay Giving Works program.

Again, welcome to the board!

I believe this board is to allow people to communicate with one another in a " Social sense of the word" in sharing ideas or perhaps info, answering questions from others to aide others and a " To be Learning experience for all " etc. It was meant so that would be " Helpful" to the community.

The " Giving Assistant, " the listing tool for EBay " Giving works" is an entirely separate issue from
the " Giving Board." Although these two "tools" do share a like interest and that is and should be to aide one another " In Need."

bonbon3200 If you haven't already, please check out eBay Giving Works (Link) which is the program on eBay designed for charity / fundraising listings. Hopefully, this will help you with your project. You alsom might want to try posting your question on the Booksellers board (Link) as they might have some good specific category tips for you.

I don't know who to contact. Our organization recently joined Mission Fish. I put something on email and expected to get the little icon, but it didn't appear.
I went back and read the instructions and it said to go to the Pictures Details and click the Add link, and to select our organization but there is no add link.
What am I doing wrong.
The instructions aren't reall clear.
I am not even too sure how to get a reply back from this message.

While I realize that there are bad people out there, I also know that there are those of us who are helping NOW thru taking in people and bringing food and water to others. If we can sell our posessions to obtain money to help them, why are you making it so hard?
I had to cancel my auctions that would help others. I don't know where my money goes. I have given to charities before only to find out later that the money didn't all go to where it was supposed to. I am not a wealthy person. I lost my home in Biloxi, albeit a second home. I just finished it and don't have alot of money to throw around. I am takin my friends from New Orleans because I KNOW I can help in this way.
This just upsets me.

This board should promote humanitarian efforts A percentage of my profits go to local charity. Any seller that does this should have a designation next to their name. Not a star or smiley face but something to let others know they are a humanitarian. People respond to humanitarian efforts.
