Bing.com

Jul 2, 2009 5:50 AM
I have watched hits coming from bing.com steadily increasing over the last few weeks. I am getting top 5 placements and if you hover your mouse over the links, it looks like they have indexed my sites very nicely. Has anyone else noticed this?

Yep.... thin, thick, soupy.... dudn't matter, they like 'em all. They're in the middle of a very aggressive national ad campaign too which explains a lot. It might not stay this way, but we'll see.

Yes, I'm seeing some good traffic come from Bing.

My only question is that cashback program. If it over writes our cookies, I just hope most visitors don't use it.

Two questions,

is it a proportional increase (more traffic from bing, less from google) or an overall increase?

How are you submitting to MSN? via the web submit or via sitemap pingback?

Traffic is up overall, but google is flat. Bing and Yahoo have both increased % for me , so google has dropped.

No problems with Google, Yahoo or MSN. Just the addition of Bing to my stats.

I usually submit to msn via the sitemap ping, but it looks like Bing has started it's own Webmaster Tools site if you want to go that route.

(space added to url after http so the link shows in forum post)

I submitted my site to MSN back when I first built it, and I noticed significant traffic coming from Bing at the end of last month, as I was going back and forth with Google over having been double charged one month for my Sponsored Search ad (a really small potatoes ad campaign of about $1.20 per day).

I decided to go with Bing for a sponsored search. It is actually costing me more per click than Google or Yahoo did, and so far I have been seven days with zero earnings (maybe if I download the report it will show some earnings though).

Even so, I'm going to stay with it awhile longer and see what happens; I know lots of people are checking it out thanks to all the ads on tv.

Some of my sites need some tweaking to make the popup preview more relevant. Trying to find a simulator now...

Bing Whitepaper:

Link

(this link will expire in 14 seconds)

Bing seems to ignore subtables that contain link content, but it does nicely index any menus you have on the page in classic left column design.

We were discussing somewhere that Google WMT might compromise sites. The same could occur using Google Analytics to track page clicks. Google could use the resulting data to backtrack site click thru rates and rank based on that performance. Though I suppose adsense could be used for tracking stats generation across sites too where the referrer and target are both adsense users.

I knew I shouldn't start a separate thread for this so I'm taking the opportunity here to wish you and the others a great Fourth of July.

Thank you so much for all the assistance you give to people such as myself who are not so tech savvy.

I hope we in this country will shake loose every scheme designed to bind us, and I hope you all have a really bright and fun weekend !!
C.

It's been said that the price of freedom is eternal vigilance... I hope we in this country still have the will to summon the innovation and motivation... present company excepted, of course... it's why we're here.

I just checked it and found that I'm in the first 5 listings for several of my sites.

Pretty sweet. I hope Bing.com catches on in a big way!
