I am using the eBay to Go widget in a few places--the version for a single auction. Two comments:
First, the widget builder doesn't prompt for a custom ID, so I can't tell which instances are getting clicks. I can tell from the "By Tool/Creative" report that I'm getting a few clicks (stress
few), but I can't tell which auctions people are clicking on.
Second is my bigger beef: if you click on the image--or just about anywhere on the ad--it ought to open the auction! As it is, clicking the image zooms in on the image, but then it's not clear how to get back to the original view. You actually have to hover over the bottom of the large image in order to get a red X to close it. I doubt if most people will get that. They'll just leave the big image showing and move on.
The only way to open the auction appears to be to pick the little VIEW & BID button. (Even the button for going to the seller's page is bigger than the V&B button.) Since the V&B button is so small, and since clicking the image doesn't do the right thing, wherever I use the tool, I add a note to click the V&B button to see the auction description. Even then, I can imagine a user being afraid to pick the button because of its label--might picking it actually place a bid? It ought to say VIEW AUCTION or OPEN AUCTION or some such.
I like being able to highlight a single auction: it allows me to carefully pick listings for my target audience--precisely what QCP is about, right? But if it's not easy for my readers to open the auction, my targeting is wasted. I think the tool needs some serious usability testing. I'm a frequent user, and I still have to think to navigate it.
