I thought the invalid bot click issue had been resolved!
Nov 9, 2009 12:43 PM
One of my campaigns doesn't get very many clicks per day, less than 100 normally. Yesterday it had almost 1,500! I checked the logs and it shows these IP addresses providing the majority of hits. Can anyone determine anything about these?

65.222.217.211
64.184.179.76
99.21.57.98
70.196.205.210
68.114.236.91

This campaign had an EPC of $0.12. Because of yesterday's hits, EPC is now $0.01. :(

Block all clicks with referrers from any TLD other than yours, including blanks. My sites that I've done this on haven't had one single bot issue since. Been months and months.

I thought I had all of mine protected too until that dreadful day this past month. Since then, my EPC score has failed to follow suit with an uptick as it did down. The traffic is all the same and is continuing to convert.

I'm still way against relying on affiliates to do your work. Even the links that are generated from the tools in EPN are not protected from bots. Why can't EPN certify a solution for the novice affiliates?

Conclusion: go back to old model with modified ACRU structure.

I just wonder if roverized links might also lead some day to a 404 page? Do it right, and who cares? I have hundreds of thousands of feeds out there if you count sorts.... I can change the format of all of them in about 3 minutes.

Sounds like one more benefit of "roverizing" ... been putting that one off for a while.

But with all the commotion surrounding RSS manipulation, I just wonder if roverized links might also lead some day to a 404 page?

The funny thing is, I've yet to see a bot get through to the Amazon listings that are on the same page as the eBay listings getting botted.

Of all the affiliate programs I run, only eBay seems to have a problem with bots and it's ironic since they are the only ones using EPC that I use.

Time to firewall all bots from my system.

Huh? Will I lose my listings in their search pages?

Only 1,500 and 2,000 clicks? Guess the bots don't like you too much. I had a bot nail me 4,000+ times one day and I'm probably in the penalty box for life. Meanwhile my sites continue to make $ for eBay. Thanks EPN, love your QCP idea...
In fairness to ePN, bot clicks were happening way before QCP started up. In fact, I started noticing occasional bot attacks showing up as clicks in my ePN dashboard shortly after ePN went inhouse back in April 2008. It's just that almost nobody cared or paid attention until now.

supercub000 - Thanks for bringing this case up. I've passed this information on to the relevant people on the eBay Partner Network team to investigate the IP addresses.

Don't worry, it's only a "few" people who are reporting this issue. ;)

OMG! I finally know what it feels like to be part of an "isolated case".

If eBay doesn't intend to fix the system design that focuses on clicks and is easily disrupted by outsiders, I strongly recommend that you at least block public access to this forum.

As with the DHS guidelines to maintain secrecy about network outages, public discussion of bot traffic effects can be monitored for success by those who would use this design flaw to disrupt affiliate payouts and/or reports.

This problem is only going to grow in size. Every script kiddie and every disgruntled ex-affiliate and his eastern bloc buddies is going to setup shop trying to disrupt affiliates for his personal jollies.

I'm having the same issue. I normally get about 50 clicks a day. Yesterday and today I've seen almost 2000 clicks?!?!?

What are we to do in this case? How do we report this?
