New landing page roverclk calls

Possible problem with the new ebay landing page format at

http://www.ebay.com/sch/items/?_nkw=blue+widget

rover clicks are redirected to the page where it attempts to load two rover-type links:

http://rover.ebay.com/roverclk/0/0/9?trknvp=an%3DDash.CategoryTabs.render.......

NS_BINDING_ABORTED

http://rover.ebay.com/roverclk/0/0/9?trknvp=an%3DDash.AspectPanel.render........  OK

The first call to CategoryTabs always aborts, even is called separately. Several other calls made by the new page fail regularly, but this one being "roverclk" is of concern.

I'm trying to replicate this. I tried using a type=3 rover link (keyword destination), but it seemed to go through OK (followed the HTTP headers).

Then I tried a type=4 link (Custom URL destination) via the ePN Link Generator. Same thing - seemed to work OK.

But my tests were pretty quick, just with eBay US. ... Are you referring to a problem during the 301 hopping between rover servers that we often see in the headers for non-US ePN programs?

I wanna replicate this. Tell me what to do.

...On an unrelated note, while during the tests above I was surprised to see Flo, the Progressive lady, being advertised directly next to the eBay logo up top. That's a pretty novel UI/advertising move!

rover appears to be going thru and loading the page.

The errors occur when the destination page is loading.

Not sure what type 3 is these days...

New EPN type 9 Search link

http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=9&pub=5574123456&toolid=10001&campid=5336123456&customid=123456&icep_uq=ipad&icep_sellerId=&icep_ex_kw=&icep_sortBy=12&icep_catId=&icep_minPrice=&icep_maxPrice=&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229466&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg

Old EPN type 4 customURL

http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5574123456&toolid=10001&campid=5336123456&customid=123456&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fitems%2F%3F_nkw%3Dipad

New EPN type 2 itemID

http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5574123456&toolid=10001&campid=5336123456&customid=123456&icep_item=230822180020&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229466&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg

Old format (type 4 is default I think)

http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?campid=5336123456&customid=123456&toolid=10034&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.com%2Fitems%2F?_nkw=ipad%26_sop%3D10%26_sc%3D1

Type 2 is intermittent and stopped doing it while I was preparing this response.  The others seem to always do it.

load HTTPFox, start it and enter /rover into the filter box

You should see:

the original rover call, 301

/roverclk NS_BINDING_ABORTED

/roverclk 200

aborts are normal occurences, but not sure what this roverclk is about.

Ahh ok, post-click page-load. (Thanks for the clarification.) Not something I've paid any attention to, honestly, but maybe I can have a look.

Right off the bat though, you're reminding me of the continuously developing complexity of rover links. I'm still a fan of the simpler old style syntax -- that I'm pretty sure continues to be supported by ePN (if it stops being supported, I really hope I find out sooner rather than later). ... I think 'type=' and 'ff3=' are synonymous, but looks like 'icep_ff3=' is new on the scene; probably the same.

Yeah they're a pretty good jumble.

icep_ff3 and ff3 are used interchangeably depending on the format. type looks to be out of use in the EPN generator
