Why do ACRUs cause a dip in QCP Earnings?

Oct 7, 2009 10:13 AM
I've been operating as an affiliate for some time now, and seem to have some sort of mental block that's become entrenched by past experience. For the life of me, this QCP stuff and the reporting that goes with it, is completely alien to the old thinking, which I can't seem to shake. Even though I've read everything written about it, I still seem to lack a fundamental understanding of how QCP actually works. Little actually showing in my reports makes any sense, in spite of all that reading.

It seems that every time I get ACRUs (I got four yesterday), my QCP earnings take a dip for that day, which, to me, completely defies logic.

I hate sounding naive in light of my years of past success as an affiliate. But, maybe if I can get my head to understand why ACRUs now depress instead of increase earnings, I can begin to comprehend some of the other things that seem like anomalies.

I have noticed the same thing and think it comes down to at least two factors.

1) with QCP earnings are averaged out and payed over a few days instead of all at once so you could see a rise in revenue over the next few days after an ACRU.
2) ACRU just aren't worth much anymore so even averaged out over the month they still won't add up to what we used to get.

There are likely other factors involved but those remain a mystery.

Neither of those explains a dip.

I've also seen this happen in my account. Your explanation is close to the standard EPN explanation, but when I've seen this, my EPC did NOT go up in the following days, in most cases, it went down. In on case, the ACRU and subsequent sale that went with it was valued at $ 0.2. It made my EPC drop from $ 0.9 to $ 0.4. This isn't logical, the QCP algorithm is literally penalizing us for ACRU's.

You're not the only one - I can't understand this QCP at all. The ebay explanation seems to me to be a load of waffle and in no way clearly explains how our commission is calculated. I carry advertisements for ebay US, UK, France, Germany, Italy etc, but since QCP came in I've only had revenue from the UK ads - which pay a few pence every day. Loads of clicks on the other sites, but no revenue. There appears to be no explanation for this apparent anomaly. It seems to me as though ebay have designed QCP to lower our earnings and confuse us at the same time so we won't question what they're doing. Hope I'm wrong !

I have to agree. My heavy equipment site that accounts for most of my clicks, ACRU's, CRU's, Bids and Winning Bids is now earning one cent per click. Last couple months it averaged 8 cents.

This month looks nothing like the preview so far.

I've seen an increase in ACRUs in Oct, payment drops on Oct3/4 corresponding with the ACRUs, but an increase in QCP payouts starting on Oct5 and increasing with additional ACRUs occurring on those days,

We may be looking at a delayed effect on the ACRU payouts. Not saying this explains the dips when the first ACRUs occurred, but they may be coincidental.
