Hello gang,

It's almost time for ASK GRIFF. I will open the chat at about 4:55pm pacific time.

NOTE: today's broadcast is the last ASK GRIFF at its old time. STarting next week, we will be broadcasting from 3:00pm to 5:00pm pacific time (2 hours earlier than the current time slot).

BTW - the auctionbytes story actually blamed the stripping on the eBay feed url that eBay told us to use. Says ebay is stripping out all your individual description to put in something generic like "see more depression glass on ebay".

I"M NOT TOLERATING THAT.

I'll put the feed for the ranch up there before I put up with that crap.

EVeryone. As I explained to Beth in an email this week. The Googlebase uploaded is a GOOGLE tool, not an eBay tool. Google has refused to work with us through our API program. What they do instead is scrape the site. We are not obliged to support this activity nor is part of your service agreement with eBay to support your listing on a competitive site.

If you have an issue with another company, then go to them and ask them to fix their product (in this case, join our API program). But to complain that a tool that pulls eBay listings off of eBay to a competitng web site is somehow our responsibility to repair or support is disingenuous at best.

BEth, it seems to me that the reason for the feed is to catch the searcher and it'll send them (with a link) to the ebay listing - so I dont' see a major problem with the description not being there. I'm just grateful that you and Deb figured out how to get the feed to work. (wondering how I missed the AB story?)

Griff I don't think you are understanding Googlebase - it isn't a competitive site - it is adding exposure to our listings directing buyers BACK to ebay!

Griff, you're not listening. AUCTIONBYTES...NOT ME said that eBay is stripping out the description from the feed on the Manage My Store page on EBAY. And putting in generic references to items on ebay.

I am not saying it. I am not blaming anyone. I'm telling you what AUCTIONBYTES SAID and I didn't even start this discussion - blame it on Chris!

Tuesday nite NBC had reporters down at Grant Park. One man (in his 50's) was up close. He was a McCain supporter and had bought his ticket to see Obama on ebay (can't remember the exact price $100 - $150). He said it was taking place in his backyard and had to see history being made.

Chgo Tribune announced today that they'll rerun Wed's papers and sell them online for $10 each

Kat - that's great if everyone on ebay sends their feed out. But why should I do all the work for my items to have YOUR items shown and sold and mine are.


Sort of like paying for listings that come up on page 427 10 minutes before they end.
