Re: Anyone else putting their store in vacation mode for the next few days?

Dec 20, 2009 6:35 PM
I have 17 orders to ship tomorrow and only 8 of those are Express 1-2 day so that means customers are still buying even if they don't expect to receive til after the holidays.

No vacation here but obviously won't ship Fri or Sat.

I have 21 orders to ship tomorrow. Some customers stated "I hope to receive this before Christmas". They paid today and I'll ship tomorrow. I hope they realize that's all I can do.

I usually close down on the 12/15. This year I closed down on the 16th. I don't like dealing stressed out late shoppers. I can't imagine why they're shopping online for Christmas presents after the 15th, much less on the 20th.

He11 no, lol. My grandfather always said "make hat while the sun shines".

Right now I'm packaging up 35 to ship in the morning and hope for more tomorrow. They're going Priority, 2-3 day delivery so it may or may not make in in 4 days. The one advantage I have is that the post office I use is the airport mail facility so the packages make on less trip before they get on the plane.

Ok, my break is up, time to put my shades back on and get back to packaging. B-)

To OP and all users who will use vacation mode:

Just remember, if you have items still running and users have them bookmarked, they can still ask questions and make purchases.

A buddy of mine found that out a couple of months ago.

Put all his listings on non-viewable vacation mode.

Left for a week. Came back with a bunch of messages and Best Offers in his mailbox. Some users sent second emails lambasting him for not answering their first email.

Needless to say, he had to do quite a bit of damage control.

Yeah I posted a notice on the 14th in my store and on my website that I would ship but the packages may or may not make it in time for Christmas. All my listings state approx delivery times so buyers have been warned. This particular year I've had a ton of last minute shoppers from outside North America.

I haven't had a single international sale this month. It occurred to me yesterday and thought it was odd.

To disneygurll:

Hopefully they will remember and honor your notice when they leave feedback and DSR's.

The real problem ones are the positives with low DSR's. Those, sellers have to eat because eBay says so, even it it is not deserved.

At least with negatives and neutrals you can ask a buyer to withdraw them. Not so with false positives.

We will be de-listing after the inventory we just simply do not have enough traffic to warrant the amount of inventory that we have up and the auctions were a disaster for us because of search so will not be doing that

In the past we kept selling right up until the end. There is always a sweet spot in here. Listing levels drop dramatically just as people are desperate to buy, And they dont crank up right away when people have holiday money to spend.

For example listing levels havent been this low since the start of November and are sinking every day.

If you plan to close or dont want to deal with shoppers get some auctions that end Xmas day or the day after or perhaps pop up some BINs on Xmas Eve etc.

You want to be listing heavy when everyone else is not.

For the many years we have been selling on Ebay its always been one thing thats remained consistent.

We offered Express shipping and we had people buying their entire Xmas list with us. Also this year the listing count drops are a little distorted.

For example from 44 million to 40 million is only 4 million so far, but those are most likely small seller with variety stuff rather than the large sellers in books, media etc. So some categories see much larger drops and that 4 million might be 8 million down in a few days.
