*** Store Inventory in Search Results ***

Mar 23, 2004 1:49 PM

Coming soon…More exposure for Store Inventory Listings!

Soon, Store Inventory Listings will get more exposure in searches on eBay! Beginning in April, when buyers do a search on eBay, Store Inventory listings matching that search will also receive exposure in a distinct placement on the Search Results page.

When buyers search for something on eBay and there are more than 10 results, they will have an opportunity to search in other areas of the site, including Store Inventory.

When buyers search for something on eBay, and there are 10 or less results in auction or fixed price formats, they will see additional Store Inventory listings that match their Search, following the regular search results list.

For more information on all the latest news in Stores, checkout the Latest News Page: Link. We'll update this page with more information on Enhanced Store Inventory as the release of the feature draws near.

We hope that this change not only increases the discoverability of Stores and Store Inventory listings, but also increases the chances that buyers find exactly what they are looking for when doing searches on eBay.

Regards,

~ eBay Stores Team

VERY cool! Thanks eBay.

This is a real opportunity for Store owners to list some high value, unusual items in their Store, while making full use of the expanded title as well. Searches won't return much (if anything) for the main search, but they will be pointed directly to the item in your store. And you can direct them from there....

Now, how 'bout that shopping cart?? :)

Upon which criteria will "additional Store Inventory listings" be shown?

(shorthand = what determines who is listed first, last, or listed at all)?

Will Scenario #1 (more than 10 items) cause the Store Inventory announcement to be on the bottom of ALL pages (translated: there are more than one results page), or just appear on the bottom of the very LAST results page only?

Id say that Anchor stores get top billing, then Featured and us poor basic users are last.

Another question-

Will searches that include description, not resulting in 10 or more returns, pick up description matches from stores?

Or is this enhancement just related to Title searches?

10 or more hits, 10 or less hits, so what & why? What's this more or less scenario about? How about we pay no commission on less than 10 sales, 10 or more we pay some commission? Makes as much sense. Fixed-price users still take a back-seat to the auction format. I fail to see the logic nor the need to re-invent the wheel here. Half.com has a system that is ideal, has been refined,is unbiased by other formats, and makes sense to both seller and buyer. If you hinder the buyer in any fashion in his/her attempt to locate an item, you've short-changed this buyer and potentially a 'store' owner. And here's another no-brainer, you risk losing this buyer to another dot com, what a marketing strategy!? So why is ebay dragging it's feet in properly accomodating fixed price sellers?

The 2 cent listing fee is PER MONTH and there is also a fixed monthly charge for the privileage of having a 'store' and then there's ebay's commission. Maybe this is good, maybe it's not. To those sellers on half.com with inventories in the tens of thousands, I suspect they have a definate opinion. I suspect this program won't work for them, even if ebay decides to properly set-up a fixed pricing format inside ebay. Makes sense to me to lose these sellers to other dot coms!? (I think maybe that was another no-brainer! I'm on a role! Why aren't I on the Payroll?).

$.02 per month for each item would kill me. Sorry.

I predict that as soon as Half.com disappears someone else will find a way to tap the market they filled. I'll be looking for them when they do.

I have sold on half.com for many months and loved the format. I am highly upset that half.com will no longer be! We are loosing a highly visable and profitable venue for which there is really no replacement unless you are not already listing on other book sites.

I am highly disappointed that ebay can only offer their store feature as a venue to sell. People don't go to the stores to look for items because they are not conditioned to look there. The ebay storefront is not the answer to half.com.

Please don't get me wrong - I love ebay auctions for the items I sell through that venue BUT again not as a replacement for half.com!

I must say I agree about not wanting to lose Half.com AS IS. I am really disappointed that the format will not be the same, and if there is another website out there that offers the structure that half.com offers now, I would definitely chose that over eBay. These are the features I will miss:

Not paying for the listing until the item sells. [Go ahead and increase the comission if you want, just don't make me pay monthly for listing items that I've had listed for free previously.]

All items by the same UPC listed on the same page to compare prices, more like the used item listings on Amazon.com.

Shopping cart.

I understand you can't please everyone, but please keep modifying your ideas as long as it's feasible.

Thanks.

We already have a small box on the Search page that mentions finding the same item in Stores. But it's frustrating to use because it just brings up a storefront, not the ITEM. This could help if buyers can see the item, with price, showing up on the screen, so they do not have to click through and hunt for it in a Store.

Sorry guys, I am not real happy about this. I too will be one of the sellers waiting for another .com to offer the same format that half.com offered. Oops, I think you made a mistake with this idea. No one wants to start paying to list an item before it sells when we have been used to listing it for free.

The new price structure is getting closer, but still won't win me over. I am not a high volume seller/lister, so perhaps I'm not one of those EBay wishes to bring over. It could be that us "small-timers" are being weeded out? I have no problem with the revised listing fees, but I DO have a problem with the (to a small quantity lister) exorbitant monthly fee.

On half.com I can list 100 books (I usually have fewer) that may never sell (most of those I have) without charge. I can sell one or two books every couple of months and make a couple of dollars. Yes half.com takes more of the $$, but at least a sale is made before I must pay them.

I do not sell enough to pay $9.99 a month. EBay will lose the "casual" sellers, because the items do NOT sell in seven days, and the monthly fee for non-moving items in a "store" would consume any profit even if they WERE sold.

In the best of all worlds where everything sold the month it was listed, yes, that would be fine, and I'd find more stuff to list or quit selling because I have nothing left to sell, but in THIS world, books and music don't sell that quickly. To offer these items, there MUST be some provision made for sellers with fewer than 100 items, for instance, or a rebate of the $9.99 fee if at least ten items are not sold (assuming a profit of $1.00 per item--where you would break even).
