New Insurance Policy

Sep 7, 2009 8:11 AM
I sell unbreakable items for under $15 and ship about half with Free Shipping. The Optional Insurance Description I added - not responsible for lost in shipping $1.50 Insurance - I felt protected me against Buyers saying it was not received and it really was. Ebay's new policy of making me remove that will make Me and other Sellers a real target for FRAUD from Buyers. I feel all of the changes eBay is making has been sticking it to the Sellers! If I add Insurance now my cost of shipping will be higher and my DSR's lower???? I understand not allowing some words to be used in decriptions but this one is not fair to Sellers.

"oh come on..." 9 years. All of it off eBay as your feedback, buying and selling it, at 0. How come you are not using eBay to sell? Almost a full Year on ebay and it looks like the only thing you are interested in is the DISCUSSION FORUM.

That's because this ID is only for posting on the boards. I also have a buying ID & around 8 selling ID's. If you're unsure why that's needed just search posting ID's.

Excuse me if this sounds rude but ,"Put your money where your mouth is". Let's see you sell on eBay before commenting on eBay's policies or other users on the system.

I've sold on ebay since 1999 & have over 20k feedback. I also run several websites. I went to business school & do consulting for web based businesses.

You also falsely state that I charge the most expensive insurance on the market. A deliberate attempt to harm my business on eBay or a person who has no clue what the cost of shipping, insurance and delivery confirmation is in Canada. Especially to foreign (USA included) buyers. Maybe both, eh?

I use self insurance & I've been selling abroad since 99' as well.

There is no way I would pay the USPS prices for insurance when u-pic, DSI & endicia offer them at half that rate & less hassle. If you're trying to add full price USPS insurance in your shipping buyers are not going to be happy. Add a $.25 & they never notice.

I would suggest you acquire proper information before making any ignorant comments on a sellers terms of sale.

Ebay & paypal's terms trump yours. You'd know that if you had read the user agreement.

That is what eBay is hoping that their community will do. Use the tatlletale system as they cannot properly enforce it themselves.

They can enforce it but don't have to. Why pay someone when people will do the work for free? It's a great business plan.

Quite an efficient company you are backing up their.

I don't agree with most of what ebay does or has done. But I do agree sellers are 100% responsible for the items until delivery. Too many crappy sellers tried to cheat buyers, this has little to do with good sellers.

Thank you for confirming that eBay's is deliberately trying to gouge the PAYING COMSUMERS of their product.

That's what for profit companies do. I charge the most the market will bear for my items as well. Profit isn't a dirty word you know.

Why hide behind a pseudo user id? I'm not afraid that the entire user community can see who this is coming from. Are you?

Also, the advise I gave you to check facts before commenting on a user's selling practices/terms of sale seems to have gone for not.

As stated in previous posting, and you actually quoted it, I am based in Canada.

Clicking on my id (a very simple task) or checking out any of my items for sale (which you have apparently done as you make comments about the insurance charge) would show that I am based in Canada.

Given your stated impressive resumee, I am surprised you are making such basic errors (twice).

Hmmm...maybe now we see why you use a "psuedo" user id.

As such, spam the discussion forum as much as you want. Until you back up your comments with a proper user id, I, and hopefully all other users, will see you a person just getting his/her's kicks and will ignore you.

All the best. Rick

I won't allow disgruntled forums users to mess with my income or my employees.

I don't really care where your located. It has little bearing on your requirement to deliver the goods.

As such, spam the discussion forum as much as you want. Until you back up your comments with a proper user id, I, and hopefully all other users, will see you a person just getting his/her's kicks and will ignore you.

I have nothing to prove to strangers & will never open my business up to harm to personally discuss things on a board. Ignore away.

rdcomics,

I find it hard to believe with your # of feedbacks you have never heard of a posting ID??

Widely used on the boards because of mischief makers who don't like what they read.

Whatever will be will be ..

"Profit isn't a dirty word you know."

amen to that! slackergirl you certainly tell it like it is. Why else put up with all of the hassles of selling on ebay if not for profit? I'm not hear for fun.

There are so many 'Rules of Acquisition' that deal with profit that I will only quote three of them.

#2 "The best deal is the one that brings the most profit."

#13 "Anything worth doing is worth doing for money."

#41 "Profit is its own reward."

If buyer is protected by paypal then optional insurance is no problem for the buyer is it? It's just that. OPTIONAL! First ebay tried to push free shipping on the seller. Guess they didn't get enought sellers to offer that so now they are trying to make insurance a required expense for the seller. I as a seller pack my packages so that they can't be damaged by ordinary handling. If there is damage to one of my package it is GROSS MISHANDLING BY THE USPS & I am supposed to be responsible for them?

No that would make it unneeded for the customer.

If there is damage to one of my package it is GROSS MISHANDLING BY THE USPS & I am supposed to be responsible for them?

No you ARE responsible. If you take paypal you have been for at least 7 years, So I don't see the need for sudden panic.

Guess they didn't get enought sellers to offer that so now they are trying to make insurance a required expense for the seller.

It's not required & if you add it in the handling fee ebay makes nothing off of it. It's up to you if you want to insure your item.

slackergirl23- If I add insurance on as a handling charge, the buyer pays this through paypal who takes the cut. Paypal is ebay! Ebay is paypal!

Paypal took a cut when you had it as a separate line item too.

Paypal like any merchant account charges a fee on the total.

Paypal is ebay! Ebay is paypal!

Indeed, only decent acquisition ebay ever made.

DELIVERY CONFIRMATION worth it's weight in gold!!

Early on, as a new seller, I shipped a guy a Vintage Levi Vest. "sorry, I never got it". I had no choice but to send him a refund (jerk). 19 cents buys alot of peace of mind for me. (this will cost you 75 cents at the post office, buy it online)

my most recent use of this little gem was when a guy told me he hadn't received an item. I said: "gee, that's funny, the post office says it was delivered"....next day, "oh, I found it, the dog next door had carried it off"

another....."never recieved item"....me: "funny, the Post Office says right here it was delivered on such & such"reply: "oh we found it. We didn't collect our mail for several days and it was in a box in the back of the Post Office"

Also, you use to be able to use the dlivery confirmation as tracking info, but it hasn't worked for me lately. that always helped when you had an anxious buyer, "where's my package" me: well, it just left Indiana!!

I am going to stick with my delivery confirmation on lower priced items, and non breakables. otherwise, I will probably use FEDEX & UPS more, and if I purchase insurance, I will do so on AUCTIVA
