I'd recommend investigating whether you can get home pick-up on a daily basis for your packages. I've listed some options below.

I recognize that these options might not be ideal for every seller and every situation, but hopefully they will help you and others on this thread.

Free carrier pickup is available from USPS. After you have printed your label, simply request a pickup from USPS. USPS free carrier pickup can only be used if you are shipping at least one Priority Mail or Express Mail package domestic and international.

For UPS shipments, once you have printed your label, you can drop off your packages at any one of nearly 4,400 locations of The UPS Store. You may also hand your package to a UPS driver at no additional charge. Or, for an additional fee, arrange for a pickup through http://www.ups.com/ or 1.800.PICK.UPS. You and your buyer can then track the package right in My eBay, since UPS provides tracking from initial scan through delivery.

For FedEx® shipments you can take advantage of the FedEx Convenience Network which offers more than 50,000 convenient drop-off locations where you can drop off your shipments. Find the location that is most convenient for you or schedule a pickup at fedex.com.

The USPS will pick up my package as long as I have scheduled pickup online prior to 2:00 AM!   That timetable knocks me out of pickups on most items if I want to ship the same day as payment.  My pickups from the post office are so late in the day I seriously doubt they even go out until the next day.  Therefore if I wait for pickups, the shipping time is going to be longer.  Thankfully I live close to a post office but everyone does not nor able to get to the post office every single day.  Small town post office hours are also limited and the window closes before most people even get off work (4:15 PM here).
