No, but the USPS, with only small confusion, will take a label printed for a FR Envelope on the small box. It's the same price. I've used the line "that's just what they print".

The one they won't print is the large one. I printed some labels yesterday, and I tried to find some way to a different place from My Ebay, but it never turned up.

I have a bunch of those too, and am just going to take them to my PO and give them to them. Why should I put them in my garbage? Let them deal with them.

Actually, I'm wondering how bigfanofyours (post #7) got a hold of eBay's blueprints/schematics/system design flowchart of the current operating system?

If you right click/ save as on that pic, you'll see what someone thought it described.

I believe those two guys on the bottom reflect eBay's recent policy change of sellers being responsible for items right up to delivery into buyers hands.

Anyone want to guess at the rest.

This could be a fun post on its own.

Am I the only one who ever talks to their Postmaster?

I think so, yes. :)

The real danger isn't local. It's at buyer's end. Unless, and hopefully, they all have a policy of just seeing that size box as being a FRB whether it's a new one or an old one.

I ran into the same thing. I had about 50 of them and my postmaster said it was on his end wether or not to accept them as FRB. He did with no problem. Ask yours.

Priority rates change in Jan '10

Cool.

Now it becomes clear what to do with the old boxes. Put them inside an FRE.

The important thing which seems to be changing is that no longer will FRE and small FRB be the same, which means that unless paypal fixes their process, there will be no way to print a label for a small FRB.... that is, unless you put it inside an FRE.

I'll have to stock up on FREs.

Since we're on the topic - those large, soft PM envelopes - they are not Flat Rate, right? So unless the thing in them is under 1 lb, they aren't 4.95?

I want to send a LLBean-type cotton polo shirt to my brother for his birthday, and if course I'm late sending it. If it's 2 zones away from me, is it likely to still be just 4.95, or will a shirt plus wrapping paper tip the scale above 1 lb.?

Anyone have any idea? (I know I will find out when I go to the PO tomorrow AM).

Re: Small Priority box, not FRB

The small priority FRB is actually a simple re-label of a long time ordinary priority box. The new one says FRB, the old one not.

I have maybe 20 of the old ones.

Any ideas as to how risky it would be to just use them as FRBs (FRB postage) in cases where it weighs over 1 lb?

Yeah, I know they're free, and I know I can discard the old ones, but it seems unpleasant to do so.
The post office has 2 small boxes that are near the same size, but not identically. One is a FRB, the other is not.

Thanks. I got some papers in one of those today, so I checked and the shirt doesn't fit. Oh, well, it will probably be late...
