No wonder their prices are the lowest. They save money by taking it from their workers pocketbooks......:(

I think perhaps some misunderstand the labor law violation that the op is about.
They, WM, are not refusing to pay for hours not worked. They are docking employees pay for hours they did work.

That's not how I am understanding it, and in fact am pretty sure thqat's totally illegal to do.

Wal-Mart has a demerit system that punishes workers who cannot come to work due to illness. Employees who miss a day due to sickness receive a one-point demerit and lose eight hours of wages.

I take that to mean if they call in sick they lose THAT 8 hours of pay.

Everyone gets their own definition.

The one thing we can predict about people who have moved themselves from being not rich to being rich: they cared about small amounts of money.

didn't they lose a big lawsuit over wages awhile back. yi think my oldest got a settlement awhile back, i'll ask him next week ifhe's back.

and another great company mcdonalds is open to accepting chicken from china as bann has been lifted ,lol.

As to prices , we get fliers and theirs aren't even close to the lowest around here . espescially groceries.

And since i rarely buy clothes retail , i'd not think their prices are that good either.

drugstore is locally owned and work with us on prices we pay. i'd rather see a locally owned store get a few pennies more than save them by using a chain that causes $ to leave the US.

We may walk a different path , but may be headed to the same place. So walk with me awhile when our paths cross. let's ease each other's load.

But they are rich while using such tactics,

I believe not paying people for hours they did work is a quick path in the opposite direction from being rich.

And it's a shame isn't it? No wonder so many employees of big box stores are of no help. They have nothing to look forward to, except a check that is just enough to get them by until the next one comes in.

No wonder so many employees of big box stores are of no help. They have nothing to look forward to, except a check that is just enough to get them by until the next one comes in.

Walmart is one of those companies where a person with no more than a high school education has no real ceiling.

I know two of them who have become store managers.

And many have gone higher than that.

They focused on moving up, not complaining. It works.

Yes, it is a labor law violation. They operate on the basis of it is better to beg forgiveness than ask permission.
The fine for violating the law is insignificant when compared to the money they save and the culture of fear they promote among employees.

The only reason Walmart follows any fair labor practices is because they have had the pants sued off them. Walmart has proven time and again that they have no, zero, nada regard for employees, suppliers, communities.

The only time they even come close to behaving fairly or humanely is when they are faced with litigation, or are putting up a smokescreen for the abuses they continue to carry out.

Labor law violations are expensive.
