can paypal lock my account & demand receipts 4 my handmade costumes

Sep 21, 2006 2:32 AM
No, I haven't. That's very peculiar - is it regarding completed sales? Are there disputes open on the items they are requesting receipts for? Has a buyer claimed that the items were not as described?

I don't see how PayPal would have any jurisdiction over an item listed on eBay and not yet sold.

The people over on the PayPal board are the experts at this stuff. I would strongly suggest that you check in over there.

Sounds like a spoof!!! Did you click a link from email? Or did you go to the paypal site and logon? NEVER click a link like that from paypal, go direct to the site and then look for account status there!

YEP they CAN do that. My girlfriend had her account frozen and they demanded that she provide reciepts for the last 6 things she had sold. Reciepts for when SHE purchased them. She was lucky and they happened to be larger things that she HAD purchased retail as opposed to things she picked up at garage sales. She had to call the store that she had bought her stroller from 2 years prior and get them to dig up the reciept and then she had to forward it to them, luckily she had reciepts for everything else.

PP is stupid sometimes. Take this over to the payPal board and ask them how to deal with this. They can be meanies over there, but if your skin is thick and you can deal with the buttmunches you will get some useful infor over there.

Good Luck
Cheers

can paypal lock my account & demand receipts 4 my handmade costumes

I do know that she had payed for a vacation, and then they didn't go, and the easiest way for the travel co to issue an immediate refund was to do it to a paypal account. So that was what they did, and it apparently sent up red flags and they froze her account. Inn order to confirm she really was the owner of the account, they reuested all of this bizzarre information from her. Finally decided it was fine and released the funds.

NOW.....her account was frozen AGAIN recently because of some non ebay things she bought from me. (she and I are IRL friends) Paypal was the easiest way for her to pay, so I just sent her an invoice, she payed it, then less than 24 hours later they froze her account and the funds in my account. After a week or maybe 2, they decided that the funds had been sent fraudulantly (which they weren't. She paid me using an existing balance, and know she is who she says she is, and she knows I am who I say I am, it was a legit transaction between friends) and took them back from my account. This was back in MAY, and they STILL haven't released the funds despite the fact that she has sent in all the necessary documents multiple times, and even went as far as having a utility bill transferred into her name to prove she resides at the address on her PP account.

Needless to say she has a very large sum of $$ sitting in a frozen PP account. I'm not talking just a couple hundred bucks either..

If I mucked up some details, she'll come along and fix it all up.

Bottom line is, you may be in for a long battle, but don't give up. go to the PP board and see what they have to tell you.

Cheers

Wow! Thanks for the info, Chey. Is there some other acceptable service, like paypal, that sellers use that is more reliable? It seems like paypal can really create unnecessary problems for sellers.

Ok I am the friend! Hiya Cheryl.

OK they can and will freeze your account for whatever reason they deem fit.

Here's my situation:

I booked a trip to Mexico and the resort only took Paypal. I paid in full, using my Visa, through Paypal. Months later, I cancelled the trip (found out I was pregnant) and the resort refunded me through Paypal. It wasn't a refund of the original payment because it had been over 60 days, it was just a cash payment. Bear in mind this resort has used Paypal for HUNDREDS of transactions over the past 5 years.

Paypal decided that this was "suspicious" activity. They reversed the transaction, leaving my Paypal account THOUSANDS of dollars in the hole. I called the resort and they had to mail me a cheque, which took 2 weeks to get here and then my bank held it for THIRTY BUSINESS DAYS because it was from Mexico.

I flipped my lid on Paypal. They insisted that this was suspicious and they would not lift the freeze on my account until I provided them with TONS of documentation, including all my ID, bank statements, credit card statements, the works. The kicker: they wanted receipts from my past 5 transactions, which were all eBay related. Why this was relevant I have NO clue, the trip wasn't eBay related. Anyways, I had to dig up all these receipts for what I had sold. One item was a stroller that I had purchased 2 years before, I actually had to call the store I bought it from and have them fax me a copy. They wanted proof of shipping for the past 5 transactions as well.

I literally faxed them HUNDREDS of pieces of paper and spent HOURS on the phone with them. Each time, they would request something new. They finally agreed to life the freeze on my account....BUT I had to bring the balance back up to 0. I was still waiting for the cheque to clear the bank so I had to take money out of an investment to bring the balance back up.

I finally thought everything was going well with them. I did dozens of eBay transactions over months and all was fine. Then, I bought some baby stuff from a friend (ironically, yummy*baby) and she sent me an email invoice and when I paid it, they immediately froze my account, froze her account and the funds, again citing suspicious activity.

About a week later, they reversed the money back into my account but would not unfreeze my account until I provide them (AGAIN!!!) with my ID, banking statements, credit card statements and a utility bill. The problem was that all the bills come in my hubby's name. I called them and they said too bad. I faxed them a piece of GOVERNMENT mail showing my address (keep in mind my bank and cc statements match my address) and that wasn't good enough. I had to have the gas bill transferred from hubby's name into my name. When the first bill arrived, I faxed it to them. I call them every couple days and while they acknowledge that they have received everything they asked for, their "resolution department" is still "reviewing the case"

So bottom line, my account was confirmed and verified. I had a bank account and a credit card attached to the account, all with the same address, same name. They STILL froze it. It's been about 3 months and it's still frozen.

Along with my SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS!!!!!

Have fun with them. They are BRUTAL. Once I get my account reinstated, I will transfer out my $700 and NEVER use them again. I'd rather pay for my auctions with a money order and risk getting scammed then give them my business.

Phew, my fingers are flying. I forgot how angry I was about this until I started typing. LOL!

Anyways, OP. Good luck, I hope it works out better for you than it has for me!

Oh I should add that it wasn't ever triggered by a SNAD claim or anything, I have never had a PP dispute filed.

You can post over on the PP board if you like, but there's some nasty folks over there. Be sure to put on your thickest skin :)

Yes that happened to me last year. Good luck with it, my case was reviewed for over 3 months before they decided my proof was acceptable. That was when I stopped taking PayPal.

I didn't have any disputes or anything I guess I was just making too much and they wanted to try to get more of a cut (it is suggested that PayPal limits accounts more than they used to because they now earn more interest off our money so they want to keep it longer)

How has this worked for you? I am thinking of running a few "test" auctions to see how it goes.....

It's worked well so far. I really did not notice a drop in sales. I am sure I've lost a few that only pay that way, but if you offer outfits that people want then they will pay through your methods to get it.

Sorry I can poke fun at her she is an IRL friend. LOL.
