I am generally a drug store make up and hair product buyer. I have found a few products that I think work great and a few others that don't live up to their claims. Sometimes even the cheapest can be better the the more expensive and sometimes it's better to spend the extra money. List your best and worst products for the money. Best: 1. For an everyday eyeliner, wet and wild pencils work fine. They are less then a dollar and work as well as most other pencils. 2. Loriel foundation. I haven't found any that I don't like. 3. Pour strips. I love the Biore ones and Jergen's had some that worked just as well and were much cheaper. 4. Avon's glimmer sticks. Worst: 1. Wet and wild foundation. One word YUK. 2. Wet and wild lipstick. Doesn't stay on and isn't very smooth.

Forgot some. Best: 1. Suave's professional line of shampoos and conditioners. I love the Biobasics. 2. Neutragena shampoos. Worst: 1. Vo5 condition. I don't know why but I hate it. Leaves my hair to dry.

The worst was a Burt's Bees facial moisturizer I tried recently. I can't remember the name of it, but it was like a thick waxy goop. I could actually feel my unborn zits forming. I washed it off and threw the whole thing in the trash.

Best-Indulge Soothing Eye Mask by Mary Kay. I keep odd hours and quite often in the a.m. my eyes are puffy. This product works wonders, helps fix that up within minutes. Worst-My sister in law gave me a lip conditoner to try out, I believe it was Mary Kay. My lips reacted horribly to this, swelled up for about 3 days and hurt for a couple more.

BEST MARY KAY's Satin hands Hand Cream with SPF4. Feels like youre wearing silk gloves! LOL. BATH and BODY works WINTER CANDY APPLE antibacterial hand lotion. Smells heavenly and moisturizes great. For my face, MARY KAY's age defying moisturizer. It's oil free and it really does hydrate and leave your skin 'plump looking' for 10 hours. For my lips, Wet and Wild lipstick gets the prize of the decade! Been wearing the SAME shade since the age of 13 believe it or not and its still beautiful and gives excellent coverage as always. Blackberry, I believe. To achieve the smoldering matte look, I first apply Mary Kay TRIPLE ACTION LIP enhancer to my lips. Helps keep lipstick on also. WORSTBurt Bee's ADVACADO hair conditioner. The one in the tin tube. I likened it to putting vaseline in my hair. YUCCCCKKK! Wet and Wild liquid lip color. Very runny and seperates easily. Doesnt last a second. Almay MILK eye cream. Dries under your eyes like glue and rubs away just as easily. You wake up in the morning with pieces of it in your eye!

I decided awhile back that money was no object when it comes to good foundation, so I went to an Elizabeth Arden counter at a local dept. store and they find the EXACT shade for your skin. So many of my friends in the 40-something category use makeup that is too light/too dark for their current skin color and use the same makeup that they've been using since high school simply because it's become a habit. I can't tell you how many compliments I've gotten since I found the right shade for my skin...and the coverage is great, too...doesn't feel greasy or look powdery.

rvlk I would love to do that except my skin color changes drastically 4x per year. Seems that just when I get what I need to be using, winter (or summer) comes and then the tan fades or reappears and its back to trial and error again. And then the spring and fall tropical vacations dont help either!
hurry before its gone!

LOL....at least you have a good excuse...spring and fall tropical vacations! Seriously, I have found that the product lasts for a few months...doesn't take much, so is more economical, for me anyway, than buying so much "drugstore" stuff that I never end up using anyway because it makes me look like Elvira, mistress of the dark.

Who was saying they didn't like Kiehl's? I think that product line is so overrated too! I used that creme silk groom stuff one always hears about and thought it was horrible. Fun to hear affirmation of what I had thought myself! For me, the best products are the ones I've used a long time and will never give up. Those are: Toms of Maine toothpaste. Toms of Maine deodorant. Kiss My Face olive oil soap. Komenuka Bijin hair treatment conditioner. Aveda Chaomomile shampoo. Clearasil for acne spot treatment. Proactiv for allover treatment of occasional adult acne. Azelex - a prescription retin A (but gentler) acne creme that I'll switch and use instead of Proactive periodically. New in my life that I like: Creme de la Mer - at night, for winter only, as my skin is combination and really dries out in cold weather. Thought it would make me break out but it doesn't, makes my skin look dewy and amazing. Framesi Snapp curl rejuvenator - a spray that's great for curls; I tried the Ouidad one too but like this one better. Tend Skin - prevents ingrown hairs after waxing. Prevonia - eye cream. What I still need to find if anyone has recommendations: a really good high quality daytime moisturizer, with NO sun protection as it makes me break out and if I'll be in the sun I'll put sunblock on myself when need be. I'd love to find one that has Retinol to improve skin texture, as well as being richly moisturizing for winter here.

I love the Dr. Hauschka silk body powder, which I use on my face, it is translucent and doesn't look chalky. I also love their facial toner for oily skin. Their products are a little hard to find, but some health food stores carry them. For my hair I love the Logona Henna, I buy 10 boxes of it every year, wouldn't want to be without it! I hate most cosmetics because they are full of unhealthy ingredients, such as petroleum by products. Geremy Rose is a great skin care line, all natural, no preseratives or other chemicals and also Weleda from Switzerland. ********************************************************* ****

Favorite: Baby Magic Hair and Body Wash with Aloe (also like the baby shampoo with aloe). Diluted 2:1:1 with aloe vera juice and water. Not too perfumy. Mildly conditioning. Anybody have any absolutely fragrance-free shampoos they like? (without chamomile --I'm allergic)

Hi This is a good thread for me - my other half is currently in New York and I have been deciding which cosmetics I would like him to get for me. I live in Western Australia, and there are some things that I can't get here. Some of my favourite products are: Kerastase Satin Bath Shampoo, and their Protein Conditioning Milk. I also like the ARTec naturals moisture pack hydrating treatment. It is moisturising but not oily, and smells divine. I like Clinique products, particularly their emergency mud mask, rinse off exfoliator, and total turnaround cream. The products I don't like: Pantene shampoo and conditioner, any bars of soap (apart from the Clinique facial soaps) and I'm sure there are others, that I can't think of now. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the urban decay magic mud? Its not available in Aus, but I heard it was good.. .should I get my other half to get some for me while he is in NY? Is there any other product which is an absolute must have? -- Rachel

This is a fun and educational thread. Thanks for the ideas! Here are my observations: BEST: Aveda Shampure, Aquage Working Spray, Borghese spa gloves and socks, Creative Nail cucumber heel cream (works on any dry skin). For gentle oral care I like Biotene products. For air travel I keep Aveda 'Blue oil' in my carry-on, and dab bits onto my temples periodically. I also use Aveda 'Skin firming/toning agent to spray my face when it feels dry from the low humidity. The essential oils in it are just the right combination for me, to offset the dryness of the air. I'm nail-vain and so I have definite preferences for my choices. I've found that a combination of Creative Nail 'Sticky' base coat, OPI nail lacquer and 'Seche Vite' topcoat gives me a 7-10+ day 'just manicured' look. I make my own cuticle conditioner with beeswax, essential oils, vitamin E, avocado oil, macadamia oil, peach kernel oil and sweet almond oil. (I'm considering whether to list it on ebaY--do you all have some insight as to whether there'd be interest?) I use Obagi skin care products, under physician supervision. I'm pleased with the results and I find the cost competitive with department store lines. One other type of skin care product I like is the washcloth alternatives. I like Aveda's face chamois, or Shiseido 'Power of Silk' exfoliating puff. I am exceedingly careful of the sun. For everyday face protection I've found that Origin's sunscreen is great. My skin is slightly oily, which the product corrects for and the feel is smooth, not greasy. I find that Chap Stik products with sunscreen are an economical and effective lip protection product. WORST: (Note that these are individual observations, rather than blanket condemnations of a given product.) I find that the Pantene products make my hair limp. Neutrogena shampoo turns it into an unmanageable tangle. Liz

My favorites:
Revlon colorstay foundation (I love this stuff! I've tried everything but this is IT for me, it really stays on.)
Revlon colorstay lipstick & Loreal Colour Endure Lipstick. (they do what they say!)
Oil of Olay Beauty Fluid - simple affordable, and it works for me without ever breaking me out or leaving me feeling greasy.
Tigi's Bedhead shampoo - this stuff really moisturizes without leaving my hair limp. I love this stuff!
Least favorites
Revlon Colorstay lash tint - not for my long thin lashes, made them fall out! oh no!
Loreal ALL day liquid lips- All day? try 10 minutes at best, and there's so little in the tube, that for $8.00 mine lasted less than a week. I think NOT.
Elizabeth Arden Mascara - smudges really bad on me and leaves me looking like a raccoon.
