Malaysian shipping nightmare or is it a scam?
Oct 4, 2011 08:55 AM

I had three books purchased by a buyer from Malaysia.

I sent him an invoice for USPS parcel post mailing. He refused to pay that, insisting that I use USPS International Flat Rate Mailing, which I did.

He subsequently filed a claim with PayPal which found in his favor for non-delivery. That was when I learned that USPS International Flat Rate Mailing can only be tracked to the point that the parcel left the USA.

After reviewing the horror stories I've seen posted here, I will file the $46 for merchandise, and the merchandise itself as the cost for education ... I now post very clearly on all items that I sell that I will not ship to Malaysia.

You did not lose the money and the merchandise. The money was the customer's and went back to him. You lost the books and shipping cost.

You can insure against loss with a third party transit insurer. It cost about 1.5% of item value.

The 'horror stories' on the boards are almost all due to the ignorance of the sellers and buyers. They almost never reveal any problem that a smart sellr would not have already allowed for.

Why bring up an ancient thread for your complaint?

My best stories are from the transactions that are as smooth as clockwork and become instantly forgetable(except perhaps for positive feedback)

I really don't think its appropriate to refer to people of certain USA states as "rednecks" because you had shipping problems there. Those same areas have a number of weather and disaster issues frequently. With regard to actual theft of mail, see third party insurance company lists as to where they refuse to insure to and what. That is a better indication of issue areas within the USA. Please no more personal, offensive comments about USA Southeners!  With regard to International Shipping from the USA; I've been shipping International for more than a year and have had positive experiences with many countries. France especially. Whatever problems France may have had in the past, they have obviously resolved to my satisfaction. I  also love to hear from  buyers in Austrailia as I know they will receive their items quickly. I wish that Canada had a faster postal system: it takes up to 20 days for a package to be received by a Canadian buyer from me. I no longer ship to Brazil, Russian Federation, Italy or Argentina due to lost packages. I love my buyers in Thailand and am sorry to hear of their flooding damage and postal issues. Hope that is resolved soon! :)

I wish that Canada had a faster postal system: it takes up to 20 days for a package to be received by a Canadian buyer from me.

This isn't a fault of the Canadian postal system.  The Canadian Border Services Agency (i.e. "Canada Customs") had to close a number of processing centres for mail from the U.S. a few years ago when USPS cut back on the number of Canadian destinations for air mail.  This means that the remaining ones--particularly Mississauga--are handling an increased volume of mail from the U.S.

Seeing as Canada and the U.S. are one of the world's top trading partners and a huge volume of goods pass between the two countries, this has just caused further slowdowns in transit time for mail between the two countries.

I have been selling worldwide ever since I started on eBay. Probably close to 75% of my customers are international.

I have a United Kingdom buyer who on a regular basis orders many hundreds dollars worth of makeup from me.

Had a buyer in AU contact me about an item I had at auction and wanted to know if I could find them more.

Years of fabulous exchanges ensued!

Hi,   I am a buyer from Israel , all my orders are orders of CDs.

95% of my orders arrived fast but 1 order arrived super fast,

Order from Germany arrived to Israel in 2 days by priority mail !!

When the cd arrived from Germany to my Mailbox

I was so stunned so I ran into the yard to see if the space ship that brought the cd is still there :)
