Get with your payments branch(Paypal) and setup a more secure payments system for international transactions. That is currently lacking leaving sellers to use alternate systems such as Bidpay.

If by "int'l trading" you're referred to 45 countries covered by paypal, I've nothing to say - it'll doesn't matter anyway...

But if you want to improve it to be real-worldwide, like, say, amazon, here my suggestions:

1. set eBay's seller's account
2. accept buyer's credit card payment to be directly credited to the seller's account

those will eliminate the time-wasting caused by third party money transfer and may multiply the eBay's transactions.

Yes volcatius, I'm from Indonesia.

But why my suggestion make it easier for all those cc scammers?

I just suggest to cut the "middleman" even if it is own by eBay.

Or if not, why don't just syncronize: restrict the eBay members to the 45 "good" countries.

I've been waste too much time and lose money in paying proccess in order to respect the bids I won, and I'm sure the sellers are frustated too waiting their money.

Looking back, if eBay just denied my application I'll be a happier man today (and so my sellers might be)

Bsubejo, how would this eBay seller's account be any different than a PayPal account? It sounds to me as though an eBay "seller's account" as you envision it would serve the same function as a PayPal account, which would be a place to have ones funds until one transfers them into a proper bank account.

PayPal isn't the only way to pay for auction items on eBay, either. It's just a matter of finding a seller offering a payment method that works for both of you. If they don't, you can either find another auction for a similar item, or ask the seller before you bid if they'll consider another payment method.

It would be great if ebay would coordinate their categories internationally.

For example movie memorabilia: on ebay.com it is placed in the main category Entertainment memorabilia and on most European ebay sites in films & dvds. And there are many other of such examples. This way an international search in categories doesn't make any sense.

Then most important: restore the search button to the tool bar that buyers will be able to find the international search at all. It's hard to find the search button in the first place and even harder to probably find the international search which is now the advanced advance search. Buyers won't click four times to find an international search.

Yes marnotom, an eBay "seller's (and buyer's) account" would serve the same function as a PayPal account, only...

1. it will applied only ONE RULE - if eBay accept you then it will accept your transaction (vise-versa)
2. it is already has all the auction datas and the member's cv (and their attitude) so you don't have to type everything all over again
3. we only have to sign-up once and
4. the buyers need only click one button to pay.

The recent situation of all of that, I think, is a "bottle-neck".

I was bid some stuffs because the eBay pages give me the impression that I can use paypal, apparently not - which I found out only when I'm already won some items and proceeding the payment, "fortunately" my sellers accept other paying methods, problem is either it is very costly or time-consuming or both (not only for me, for the sellers too).

Remove differences with MERCADO LIBRE/eBAY and make one account accessable to both.

Tim:

I presume you are referring to Americans selling internationally, since the rest of the world doesn't seem to have this problem like US sellers do .... as least as presented by those who post to this forum.

1. You have to deal with their fear of international selling ....maybe education on how it is not any more difficult than domestic selling. Americans seem to think that they are far more likely to get cheated by an international buyer than a US buyer ... this is just not true.

2. You have to deal with their insecurity ... Paypal is a good tool, but US Sellers want an iron-clad guarantee that payment will be returned to the buyer, by Paypal, for any reason. They can have this within the US. Non-US sellers don't have this security blanket and don't seem to have the number of problems that US sellers do.

In summary, I think you can encourage international sales by US sellers through (1) education and (2) dealing with the two tiered Paypal security blanket, make it exactly the same for both domestic and international sales.

I agree with the suggestions that Amazon payments system is better and uniform. If you buy from their marketplace sellers(I haven't tried their auctions), the payment is just like buying from Amazon itself. Amazon processes the card and gives the seller their cut. None of the piles of Paypal rules about no intenational protection, or mentions of please contact the seller for payment details because Paypal won't allow the seller to advertise another online payment option such as Bidpay if the seller is involved in certain Paypal programs.

Paypal is a good tool, but US Sellers want an iron-clad guarantee that payment will be returned to the buyer

Hi from Germany.

I can't understand why I'm not automatically a verified Paypal member when I'm a verified eBay member already. Ebay has checked my ID card (live, at the eBay University at Nuremberg this year), so what more does Paypal need to get me verified? And don't tell me I could get myself verified at Paypal, too. I know that. But now that Paypal is an eBay company, I would wish a Paypal account that is automatically verified with eBay verification, and insolubly attached to the one selling account you verified. That would create more trust. (Of course you should be able to have more than one account.)

Another topic:

For sellers in any country, it would be very educating to show them on an easy-to-understand page how simple it actually is to fill in a customs declaration form. I know from eBay Germany's boards that many people who have never done this before fear a lot of paperwork - which simply isn't true. So maybe you should show how easy it is, using the USPS forms as an example. (Maybe USPS will assist you there.)

With the introduction of Paypal in continental Europe, international trading has become quite easy, and I would sure appreciate it if more US sellers would ship internationally, and I'd sure buy more if this was offered in their auctions. I stopped asking questions to sellers who ship "US only", but simply don't buy there. That's sad, because I missed some items I really wanted.

Another fear that seems to exist is that of not being able to communicate with a buyer from a country where another language is spoken.

Most buyers will know enough English to at least get by. In cases where communication just isn't possible, both buyers and sellers can come to this board. A lot of people here speak more than one language and are always happy to help.

I mentioned this suggestion on the other thread, too, but I don't know if the two of you are comparing notes or not, so I'll suggest it again.

EBay has put in place the capability of blocking all international bids for those who wish to sell only within the US.

Now how about doing a favor for those of us who DO sell internationally, as well? At the same time making it easier for international buyers to find our auctions. A poster named Pierre suggested a few years back that it would be nice to have a world globe icon on the auctions of those who welcome international bids.

And if you want to go one step beyond that, how about making that a gold globe or some such to indicate that we not only sell internationally but also accept PayPal from international bidders?
