Tim, I appreciate your response - but - here's the grain of salt:

actively working on some of the suggestions that were posted on this board.

Tell me this is not just the same old same old. Tell me this means that you will do something about the ONE MAIN problem that's been posted here: PAYPAL. Thank you.

Re: suggestions to eBay on improving int'l trading

I recently read the discussion about UK sellers having problems with U.S. buyers not understanding exchange rates and international shipping, etc. Now I would really hate to see anything added that might add a little more red tape to the process but I really don't want to see sellers stop selling to the U.S. or any other country for that matter. So here are my suggestions:

THE HARD WAY:
Create an online short(maybe 5-10 minutes) class or certification that buyers(and sellers if you want to)can take to be better international ebuyers. Give sellers the option to make it mandatory to take this certification in order to bid on their item and EBay should block non certified buyers from bidding on that item and come up with a screen that says you must have international buyer certification to bid on this item, and give them the link to be certified.

THE EASIER WAY:
Give sellers the option to have a screen come up when an international buyer tries to bid on their item. The screen should advise them before proceeding to keep in mind exchange rates and international postage, and the fact that international packages can take longer due to customs or other problems.

EBay could make both options available to sellers when creating their auctions. Those who REALLY want to cut back on problem buyers can choose the harder option while others can choose the easier one or none.

Not everyone can agree on any one way to solve a problem, but giving the seller different options gives them the ability to choose what works best for them.

Also, I forgot to mention. I agree with everyone on Paypal needs to increase the 30 day rule or at least offer people an extension. I am currently still waiting for a package from Canada which will hit the 30 day mark in about a week. I don't want to do a chargeback, but I don't know what to do. I know Canada has there little Customs strike going on and I can accept having to wait longer, but I don't want to end up with nothing.

Brendababy......DOn't Blams Canada for the Delay, Our Customs strike has nothing to do with the Delay of your Package....it is your US Customs and the big Homeland Security Issue that will delay your package. Canada customs is only worried aobut packages coming INTO Canada not going out. Because of your Election, I think is why mail is being delayed........Just a thought......

Sorry merry-j-wanna didn't mean to sound critical of Canada, someone told me Canadian Customs was likely the problem. USPS also told me this. They wanted the tracking number be certain but I don't have one. But, your right, the U.S. elections and Homeland Security was one of the things I also thought could be holding things up.

Re: suggestions to eBay on improving int'l trading

I am an eBayer in Australia, and though I've never had Paypal related problems, I do agree that the complaints time limit needs to be increased. From the auction end time to when the item is paid for and shipped could easily take 14 days, and then usually 7-14 days for shipping, and there is nearly 30 days gone already.

Another suggestion I agree with that was made earlier was to align all the categories. It is frustrating to do a search via eBay.com.au for an item with 'worldwide' selected, and only get results from a couple of countries because the category numbers do not match worldwide. I then have to go US eBay (where most of the sellers are) or UK eBay and do a separate search, sorting through to find the sellers that ship internationally. The Advanced Search option of choosing "Items available to > [select country]" does not work well because many US sellers have "Ship to US only" set as the default, yet in their auctions state they *do* ship to Australia/UK/etc and list their international rates.

It would also be great if eBay could raise awareness of selecting international shipping destinations when sellers are listing items. I think many sellers are unaware that they can choose which international areas they will ship to, and are afraid they may have to deal with scam buyers from countries with a high rate of fraud. eBay should make it clear they can choose "safe" countries such as Aus/NZ/UK/EU to ship to.

I also agree with the above poster who said it would be a good idea to have an eBay tutorial/help page to show people how to fill out a customs declaration sticker or form, and that it's not scary paperwork, just a few lines that take less than 2 minutes to fill out. :)

Tim,

I'm finding that it is impossible for an American to list an item on Australian ebay. Not only is PayPal not integrated into the item listing, PayPal doesn't allow you to send invoices in $AUS that could then be converted back to $US.

I wasn't able to find another payment method, so I had to cancel my Australian listing and eat the non-refundable fees for early cancellation. In fact, there's no information on this subject anywhere on ebay or ebay Australia to find out how an American can collect payment from selling an item on ebay Australia.

I do most of my selling on ebay UK which is very easy. Australia would be a great one to integrate with PayPal, because it's the only English speaking site available in the Far East. The number of listings on that site would probably grow exponentially if you allowed Americans to sell there.

I am an ebayer from New Zealand. I can only (yet again) make a plea to increase the complaint process time. Despite US surface shipping supposedly being 4-6 weeks to reach NZ, in reality it is 6-10 weeks (and usually 10 weeks). From the UK it is 12 weeks. Add on to that time of any delay there may be from the date won, to the date item paid for, and then the date posted, it's unfair to be stung by the 30 day rule. If you want to maintain an international community of buyers and sellers - EXTEND THE 30 DAY RULE!!! :)

I thought Australia was in the Far West? ;)

I have this same situation. The categories for my favorite type of item are different on eBay.com, eBay.com.au, eBay.co.uk, and eBay.de.

I really would like a universal worldwide system of categorization.

Hi from Saudi Arabia

As a buyer, I have 2 points
1- If you can improve paypal to be available to all, it will be better, you can see the service provided by moneybookers.com but if this is unacceptable idea, then at least you should accept non-US issued credit cards to be accepted to be used to pay others whom are having paypal accounts. The middleman is consuming money and time.
2- As you are having a filtering option, to filter items accepted to shipped worldwide, you can make the same for items accepting paying using bidpay.com

Regards,
