Hi Blast1915,

Let me address two of your major concerns:

1) Top Rated Sellers get do get bump in their rank, the exact % is proprietary. Having said that, it does not mean we shut out other sellers/items. Other great deals or listings from new sellers will be shown based on their merit.

2) Auction style listings get boost in sales when they are about to end. So buyers will find items that are about to end.

Hi Folks,

As promised, here are some responses to questions we didn’t have time to answer during the office hours session. This is just the first batch and I will continue to add more responses throughout the week.

With 20/20 hindsight, I realize I should have put the post #s in my responses during the office hours session, to make it easier to follow along. As I respond, I’ll include the post numbers I’ve already responded to, along with the post number of the response.

Hi finders*keepers
Post 3 - We have no plans to remove the listing performance score from Best Match.

Post 5 - The SR2 announcements on July 27 included information on the new listing performance score and plans to include it with the SR2 release. At the same time we removed many of the recent sales reset rules to allow sellers to adjust their listing strategy in advance of the release.

Thanks for posting

Post 9 & 25 - We do give exposure to items with no sales history, and that is based on their similarity to relevant items. Items that are very relevant will receive exposure higher in search than items that are not relevant.

Post 11 - Use of Featured Plus did not increase the impression count on any listings. Featured plus moved items up higher on the page where they were already slated to appear, but did not make them appear more frequently.

I suggest you use the Search Visibility tool to see how your listings compare to others in your category to determine if you need to make adjustments to your listing strategy.

Post 30 - The Search Visibility Tool displays sales divided by impressions – that is your listing performance score.
Thanks for posting

Thanks everyone - stay tuned for more responses

Hi everyone - here is the second batch of responses

Hi timecatchers,
Post 7 is answered by post 36 (with more details below in answers to 17 & 39)

Post 10 is answered by post 20

Post 19 answered by post 35.

Post 23 - Thank you for your suggestion. I have passed it along to the team responsible for the search pages.

Post 29 - The changes we’ve made to Best Match will make it easier for new sellers to compete on the site. The listing performance score evaluates items not on the total number they sell, but how much they sell relative to the number of times the item is seen. This makes it significantly easier for a seller with well-priced, relevant inventory to move up in search. A seller on page 10 may only be seen 10 times in a day, but if they make 5 sales from those 10 impressions it is clear their item is very attractive to buyers and it will quickly move up in search.

Post 17, 37 & 39 - Only Top Rated Sellers are badged and promoted in search. Because the change to the Powerseller program was a major one adding over 50,000 new Powersellers, we chose to stagger the release. Sellers who now qualify for the Powerseller program based on the modified program requirements will receive their invitations this week. Once the invitation is accepted the new Powersellers will be evaluated for Top-Rated status on the 20th of each month, and the sellers that qualify will begin to be badged and promoted on that date.

Hello everyone,

Here is another batch of reponses -

Hi cafeamericaine,
Post 40 – The best practices for fixed price items without sales history are the same as for other fixed price items. Make sure your listing has a high performing title, is priced competitively, and offers reasonable (or better yet, free) shipping. Your seller performance is also taken into account – eTRS sellers will get a boost, and below standard sellers will be demoted.

Hi emeraldgoddessgardens

Post 28 – Yes impressions and sales do carry over. However, an item’s most recent sales and impressions count the most in the new Best Match. The sales and impressions you have made since our launch on September 29 play significantly more role in your score than the ones prior to that date.

An impression is counted for an item when an item appears on a search results page viewed by a buyer. It includes both browse and keyword search. Drill down impressions will not be counted against a listing.

Your listings will move down in search if your listing
performance score is lower than your competitors. Basically, if item A comes up in search 10 times and sells 1, and item B comes up 10 times and sells 3, item B will have a better sales per impression ratio and move up in search.

Hi dorothysew

Post 31 – I forwarded your question to the team responsible for this feature, and they tell me this is behaving as intended.

Post 42
Congratulations on qualifying, and I’m sorry for the confusion surrounding this issue.

Hi all*about*horses

Post 33 – I sent your comments to Rich M. on our shipping team, and this is his response – “Sellers that ship magazines via media mail put their packages at risk of being inspected by the postal service, and if found in violation can be returned to sender or arrive postage due. There are instances where sellers do not know they are in violation, so eBay has begun more messaging to sellers in categories outside of books, music, movies. When a seller lists an item using media mail not in a standard media category, we give a warning at the top of the page where we reiterate USPS’s policy on media mail usage. “

Thanks for your comments
