54000!

Bat wrangling is not for me!!

Sarah, can you please let me know how the purse did?  The rest I'm not that curious about, but there's been some speculation among friends about the purse, so I'd like to know how much of the total check is for it.  I sure do appreciate you doing this for me!

We actually went mattress shopping yesterday!  I've gone a few times in the last couple years, but Dermot was never ready to let go of the $$.  Now, looking at possible hip surgery, he's going to have to bite the bullett and do it anyway.  Had he done it back when I wanted to, he'd have saved $$.....prices were cheaper and we could buy outright back then;  now we'll have to finance it for at least a few months.  Oh well, as long as we finally get ONE, that's what matters!!

Off to take Dad to PT, have a good day everyONE!

Waldo sounds like several little bumps in the road around here.

One must have had visions of grandeur because the founding fathers named it Paris.  Later settlers changed the name to Bunch, go figure that one!

Suz, I hate mattress shopping.  I don't see how you can tell if one is right without sleeping on it for a week or so.  I think they would frown if I showed up in my jammes clutching my teddy bear though.  Congrats on the big number. Wonder if Pat still sends out certificates for them?  I have a couple tucked away with my eBay treasures.

We took stuff to Goodwill yesterday and wandered around the store.  You can pretty much pick out eBayers or re-sellers just by watching how they shop.  Lots of moms getting school clothes too.  Must have seen 54001 t-shirts being pawed over.

It drives Ma to distraction, that I do most of my clothes shopping at GW, digging around in attics and garages, does not lend it's self to retail and the only time I go out is with Ma and dress up as it is, is done on the cruise, which this one will likely be the last, I really need to dig through and clean out the remains of my old "work clothes", skirts and dresses..

Suz, I sold the purse for 150.00, it was missing the shoulder strap and has some interior issues, I may have gotten a little more on ebay, but then there would have been fees, hope this was okay..

I am getting a little nervous, the client, whose sale, I am supposed to do, on the 1st week of September, is supposed to move this weekend, but, I have not receive my contract back and the pick up from Waldo was supposed to go into that house, heck, I might have to get another space at the mall, evil grin..good thing is that ESS's room is filled end to end..54002

Can you believe the kid's boss has something called a personal shopper....in Iowa for heaven's sake.  That to me is the height of snobbery.  The lady even wears watches that have straps that are color coordinated to her outfits.  I really dislike being in the same room with her....

Hope you got the details of the sale straightened out.  Today was beautiful and a joy to be outside.  Has a yearling deer in the yard sampling all the grass and trees for quite a while. So pretty.

Cleaned and filled six hummingbird feeders.  Hard to stay ahead of the bees right now.  The lack of rain has dried up all their necter sources so they are living on our grape jelly and hummer food.

54004 cheers for Sarah!  I am pleased beyond words with that amount!

The last two days have been wonderful here temp-wise.  A much needed break, that's for sure!

Jamie & Jessi are coming over tomorrow!  Can you tell I'm excited?!  Can't wait to see Ewan!

Well, I guess there are moneyed folks every where, I don't think, I would like being a personal shopper, heck, I don't even like to shop anymore..

I am so glad you are pleased, Suz, hope your visit is fun..

Starting on operation, Drain Ma's yard, digging a trench across the back yard, laying pipe, filling that with gravel and resodding, gonna need that BC powder..

Glad that I actually got some work done, yesterday, before I discovered the Harry Potter marathon..54005

Hey Suz, the weather is great too!  I might have even shivered this morning.  Not sure, because I have forgotten how they feel.

I've been dragging ugly jewelry downstairs today.  My Lord if there is a world shortage of cowry shells, look no farther, they are here.

I knew mom liked strands of shells but really went overboard with them.  Not 54006 but darn near.

Well, the yard was too wet to start digging my (Ron's) ditch..

54007 giggles at the collection of shells, hey, they were a big deal, back in the day, and I have to own up to badgering my folks over a strand of puka shells, talk about ugly, ugh, and the wedge heels and bell bottoms that went with them..

My contract came back and the owner, wants to try and do the sale earlier, so I am going over this morning, to see, how much is going to be involved and then to swing through the mall, to fluff and puff..

Hey Anita, nice to see you, I hope all is well and hope you come back..

Well, I may try to get myself fired, I went to the house and it is filthy and I think the client is a tad too needy, so I will go back this afternoon and do a bit of spot cleaning and jot some prices down, she is supposed to come back this weekend to clean out the fridge, if she doesn't like the proposed prices, I will try and talk her into something else, another case of paying way too much for stuff, that has no value..

We did a pick up yesterday and took the stuff to the cat's office, and the first customers for today's sale, were already there, heck, that was at 2 yesterday afternoon..

wow, 35 years, that the king has been dead, if for no other reason, I have to get to Vegas, one of these days, just to see all the look a likes..54009 other things to think of for a bucket list

Hey a quick pop in from an old friend and original Onesie.  How are things going for you Anita?  Really miss seeing you and all the other regulars.

Sarah, you have more patience that I would dealing with early

arrivals.  They show up before sunrise when we have a family yard sale. Now if they want to help carry stuff out and set it up, I might not growl so loudly at them.

The jewelry sorting continues, the piles are sorted and resorted on a daily basis.  Some stuff has been shoved around at least 54010 times.

Re: ONE (1)
Aug 17, 2012 02:51 AM

Well, when you spend an average of 5K per sale, there is a lot of patience earned, they are nice folks, but spending the night in a mid sized car..ugh..been there, done that..

I hope the client calls soon, we have a bigger issue, if indeed she has turned off the water, I don't know, in her present situation, if she can afford to turn it back on, BUT I can not work in a house with no water, the house is in an area, that would require getting in the car and driving about 2 miles, for potty breaks..no no no

I know all about piles, it seems, I have shifted some of the same stuff, for a really long time..54011

Re: ONE (1)

Boy I'd have to go on strike until I had running water too. Hope it worked out.  Question:  what is your opinion on polishing old silver jewelry?  I have several pieces of Mexican silver and turquoise or mop.  They are pretty tarnished and  my first urge is to shine 'em

up.  Is that the right thing to do, I know they will photograph a lot better that way.

Went to our favorite Mex. restaurant for lunch.  I think the owner is going a bit overboard.  There is an Amish produce auction in the area a couple times a week this time of year. The restaurant guy is buying like crazy.  The whole front inside the store is filled with crates, crates and more crates of tomatoes, same thing with cucumbers.  There are 50* sacks of corn, mountains of watermelon, apples and more on the sidewalk in front of the place.  I think he trying to cross a restaurant with a produce stand.

On top of that he's starting a business baking Mexican pastries.  There is a case full of those in the restaurant too.   I don't care mush for Mexican pastries so it was all I could do to eat part of the sample he gave us.  Ugh, whole  rings of candied pineapple in a weird shiny crust.  Eat well birds. 54012 sweet things in your future.

Re: ONE (1)
Aug 17, 2012 09:33 PM

54013 tomatoes here, but all of them green so far...or at least most of them!  Cucumbers have almost quit producing, although this cooler spell has them blooming again....hoping it's not too late.  I'm really disappointed, this year I've never really progressed beyond the two or three a day average, so would never have made it for Dee's market!  LOL

Sarah, count me as another who would have to go on strike for running water.  Convenient potty breaks are a requirement!

We had a nice visit with the kids.  Unfortunately, Ewan didn't like Grandma's pool any more than any of the past ONEs.  We think we've figured it out....he loves his bath, but in it he can touch bottom!  I wish now we'd have taken him to the city pool so we could have gone to the baby pool.  Oh well, next summer I'll be prepared with ONE of those little kiddie pools for him at home!

I think I'll have one more small package for Sarah too.  I knew when I put this last one together I was missing something.....sure enough, when cleaning the desk off I found the other bag of earrings and pins, which included some enameled stuff.  Not sure if it's anything special, but maybe combined with the other stuff she still has, it will make me another dollar or two.

Went to my pain management dr on Wednesday and discussed my upcoming appt with the surgeon.  He works with that surgeon and said that the first thing he'd want to do was try a steroid shot in my hip, rather than surgery;  I guess they don't like to replace joints on people under 50 if they can help it.  So, we went ahead with the shot that day....HURT LIKE HADES!  And, unfortunately, the relief it gave me (after initial pain wore off) is not seeming to last.  I'm still walking somewhat upright (which I had not been for several weeks), but I'm limping more each day....at this rate I'll be back where I was before I see the surgeon on Thursday.  Kind of what we expected.  When my dr was doing the injection, he used some sort of imaging to guide him, and when he saw the picture he said, "Girl, your hip is SHOT!  No wonder you hurt!"

Re: ONE (1)

Suz, that's horrible that they want to hold off replacing your hip.  Pain knows no age.  I do know the material used today lasts much longer than the older stuff.  Frank's mom had both hips done years ago and had to carry a card to explain why she always set off metal detectors Having "new' hips changed her so much. It was as if she remembered how to smile again.  Hope it works out for you soon.

Sarah, I think I answered my own question about polishing silver. Found the info on the jewelry board and followed their advice.

I actually stopped sorting and started wrapping.  A step in the right direction.  54014 squares of tissue paper in my future.

I usually polish my sterling jewelry, I use a toothbrush for detailed pieces, one to polish on and one to polish off, yep I am channeling the karate kid..

Client still has not made it into town, hopefully today or tomorrow, and then we will see if she has cardiac arrest at the post it notes with proposed prices for the really big furniture, which I have priced at about 20% of what she paid for it, if I end up doing the sale, I think I will have to run it as a glorified garage sale..

May go to an auction today, yeah there is a ton of housework to do, but I am not feeling any love for it..

Suz, stay strong, it sounds like the surgery is going to be your relief and your age, I would think would play to your recovery, my MIL came through with flying colours and she is in her 70"s..

Dee, the fruit things sound icky, but at the farmers market, they have a baker who does impanada's (sp), that are really good..54015

Okay, silver polish is on the shopping list.

I like empanadas and tres leche cake and flan a lot.  So many Mexican desserts are just too sweet for me though.

I had to take a day off from sorting stuff.  I ran across the photos of my mom's jewelry that were take for insurance.  It shocked me all over again at how many things were stolen while she was at the leisure living place. There's got to be  a bunch of tricked out maids there. I'm so glad that I was smart enough to save most of her turquoise stuff.

Frank's been trying to figure out the video setting on his camera.

Been standing in front of an open window shooting pictures of the hummingbirds at the feeders.  Sooner or later a bird is going to fly through the window and zoom around the house!

54016 thoughts about that!

54017 shivvers at the thought of a bird in the house!!  Birds creep me out!  Of course, having my brother try to stuff a dead one down my throat probably has something to do with that!!  LOL  The things he did to me, I don't know how I managed to speak at his funeral and be nice about it!  Proof miracles do happen, I guess!!  Hard to believe it's been nearly two months already:  this summer seems to have passed in ONE hellish blur.  I'm ready for fall and better times ahead!

Then, I won't mention the rat, that one of the cat's brought into the house, years ago and it was still alive, talk about eeuuwww

I have to drag myself to the doctor's, I have poision oak all over my face and one eye is badly, puffed up and Ma was biten by a dog yesterday, so I will have to postpone the sale and will vote with Suz, about a better fall..

Dee, I know, what you are talking about, amazing, when I got my Grandmother's effects, a small tin box, where was all the things, that my folks had bought her over the years..54018

The idea that anyone would rip off the elderly and/or mentally ill just makes me boil.  I have relatives in both areas and I've seen some real horror stories.  And the horrible part is, I don't know how to stop it....

I thought the hot weather was over but it returned with a vengance today.

I have a friend who swears by something called jewelweed for poison oak and ivy.  The rash is truly evil and I hope you get fixed up quickly.  Was the dog that bit your mom a stray?  That's an awful thing to happen to her.

I agree Suz, this has not been your year at all.  You are way overdue for happier times and I hope they show up soon!

Re: ONE (1)
Aug 23, 2012 08:33 AM

Okay, I will have to google Jewelweed, I have the z pack of steroids and they are already helping, as I have no choice, I have errands to run, as I have not ventured out of the house all this week, although right now I make the Creature of the Black Lagoon, look good, I have to go out..

Looks like we will have to get that drain dug in for Ma, as heavy rain is expected next week..54020 ughs

Nope the dog has an owner, that in my thoughts, should have had the dog muzzled, the dog ran over to Ma and the owners warning came too late..

It is not just the homes for the elderly, we see stuff all the time, where the housekeeper/campanion has stolen things, there was one house, several yars ago, where the husband (wife had died of cancer) was looking for about 30K of the wifes jewelry, he had suspected the housekeeper and had fired her, sure enough, in a purse inside of a straw bag, there were the jewels, that was a happy find for me, as they were going to the their daughter...

Re: ONE (1)
Aug 23, 2012 02:36 PM

Hee, hee the kid was the Lagoon creature in high school.  She was takingphotos for the yearbook and got into a patch of poison ivy.  It got all over the camera so when she put it up to her eye..wowser did she get it.  My Jewelweed frilend is into all the herbal cures so take that with a grain of salt.  She also does some very odd things with crystals!

Since I was never around dogs as a kid, they tend to make me nervous until we know each other really well.  Some, Dobies hate me on sight and the feeling tends to me mutual.

How fantastic that you found all the jewelry.   And now you are about to "find" more of it.  I mailed the box this morning.  As I said, what you do with it and when you do, if at all is completly up to you.

We have to make a flying trip down to Columbia Missouri for a overnight.  Need to check in with one of Frank's sisters.  She's okay, it is her miserable sons that I want to stay 54021 miles away from

Re: ONE (1)
Aug 24, 2012 09:19 AM

I don't even want to THINK about poison ivy!!  When I was married to the ex from hell, we lived in a house that had "weeds" growing along one side when we moved in.  I got ambitious and decided to clear them all out, was SO proud of myself.....until I started breaking out and itching all over my body.  I was so miserable, probably one of the worst feelings I remember!  And of course we were too broke to go to a dr, so I just stuck it out with benadryl and calamine lotion!  Not something I want to ever repeat!

Good news.....I AM having a total hip replacement of the right hip!  The nurse should call me in about a week to get it scheduled;  just guessing from what the dr said, it will probably be around the first part of October.  It can't come soon enough for me!  54022 aches and pains, and not sure how much longer I can deal with them!!
