New "Quick Look" Feature

Nov 3, 2009 12:04 PM
I've looked all over the boards and haven't found anything on this topic. Have any of you noticed the new "Quick Look" photo feature that appears to be replacing the "Enlarge" feature? I'm finding lots of auctions that now have it. When looking at the listings, "Enlarge" allowed you to hover and view a larger version of the photo. Now the new "Quick Look" is a link that you have to click on and it opens a small window with the same thumbnail size photo and all the auction particulars. This is crazy. If I wanted to see all that, I would click on the auction instead of clicking on a smaller version. Does anyone else find this odd? Does anyone know if this is replacing Enlarge or is it a second option for the seller? I went in to my "revise" auction to see if there was anything there to select and I didn't see anything. I would like to hear what others think about this. Note: it isn't on all listings but is on quite a few.

Hi nettilee,

Yes, I've noticed the "quick look." I've seen both Enlarge Photo and Quick Look, but not both together. I don't know if Quick Look is replacing Enlarge Photo, to be honest.

I don't care if they have a Quick Look instead of Enlarge Photo, as long as the Quick Look has an enlarged photo - if it's going to be the same size as the thumbnail, that's just doofy.

I also don't like the fact that you have to click on it instead of hover, like the enlarge photo. If you have to click, you might as well just click and open the auction listing.

Hi again nettilee

One of the things that folks here have complained about is that the pictures have expanded without clicking - that it expands if you accidentally run your mouse over it. So maybe they are thinking this is a "fix" for that.

I have become frustrated with this "Quick Look" because I have come to expect and LOVE the "Enlarge" feature.

Attn. eBay: ENLARGE IS A QUICK LOOK!

Enlarge allows you to get a better view of the item without having to go to the auction page. It is window shopping at its best! If people do not like the pop-up aspect of the Enlarge feature then change that to a click instead of a hover, but replacing it with a mini auction page is...well...stupid.

QUICK LOOK IS USELESS AND ANNOYING!!!

Use simple math eBay...I purchased MORE with Enlarge and less with Quick Look. Watch your overall sales plummet if this stays in effect!

I am in total agreement! If they are considering Quick Look which it looks as if they are since it is there, then PLEASE place the enlarged picture there! We are looking because we want to see the details of that image. I also skip those useless Quick Looks for I want to see the item. If I like what I see, only then would I look further at the listing. Obviously those doing the programing are not active eBay members.

Firefox has a free add-on, which I love dearly. It's called CoolPreviews. When they first introduced it, the name was Cooliris. I don't think I would have the patience of using searches and long lists if I didn't have the add-on on my computer. (The add-on does not slow anything down and it appears quickly.) My geek husband also loves it for his technical usage. Ebay has suggested using the Firefox browser, which I had been doing so anyways for I found it the fastest browser of many offered. I strongly recommend getting the free Firefox add-on of CoolPreviews. It's similar to using a page in a page. When you hover a live link anyplace, at any site, the blue symbol for CoolPreviews shows, then you hover, or click it if you wish, with your curser. Instantly up pops the entire link for you to view, or act upon. I can even travel to the seller's other items or pay, since the view is an actual page. When I want to leave that page view, I simply move my curser off of the page borders and I am still at the original list that I was using. This means no reloading time to get back where you were shopping. Now that is cool!
