Help Create New Category Structure In Vintage Fishing Lures

** Help Create A New Category Structure In Vintage Fishing** Hi Folks, It’s time to add to the category structure in Vintage Fishing, and we need your help! eBay’s Category structure is the “shelf space” for the millions of live listings on eBay at any one time. Ensuring there is adequate shelf space for these goods is essential to help buyers find their items quickly. Many buyers “browse” through the category structure to find their items, or they search for a key word term, and use the category structure to filter the results they get. Below is the current category structure & the number of items currently live on the site for the Vintage Fishing category. As you can see, the “Other” categories are too big, this indicates that the category structure isn’t relevant to the types of goods being listed. Hense, we need a better category structure:
Fishing > Vintage > Lures:
Creek Chub 367 items Heddon 1,150 items Pflueger 106 items Shakespeare 43 items South Bend 124 items Other 4,196 items
Fishing > Vintage > Reels:
Casting Reels 1,113 items Fly Reels 273 items Spinning Reels 648 items Other Reels 442 items
Besides Lures & Reels, the category contains a main category for Creels, Flies, Licenses & Rods. (You can see the category structure in action by clicking HERE and looking at the left hand side of the page) Here are the questions you can help answer: a) Currently the Vintage Lures category is categorized by by brand . Is there another way to categorize all of the lures, (e.g. – Folk Art, Wood, Metal etc etc) before categorizing by brand (similar to how Vintage Reels is categorized)? Or is categorizing by brand first the only way to do it, if so, what brands are we missing? Either way, the “Other Lures” category as it stands is WAY to big, it’s hurting the buying experience. b)Are there any more types of Reels that should be included in the Reel category structure? (e.g. - Vintage > Reels > Big Game & Saltwater) c) Are there any other types of Vintage Fishing products that should have a category here? Let’s start the discussion, please feel free to weigh in with your thoughts on what the category structure should look like, or provide any information on how you believe people buy vintage lures & reels. Together we can all shape what the category will look like on eBay! Thanks! Casey Fishing Category Manager, eBay Sports Julius@eaby.com

The best idea yet is to have Vintage>Wood, Vintage>Plastic, Vintage>Metal catagories. Also, do people just not understand the meaning of the word vintage and it's correct use? Vintage in no way means "old". An item made yesterday could be vintage...vintage 2004.

Thanks for your input. I will look at the postings & try and formulate a new structure. Once I've created a draft of a new structure, i'll open it up for another round of comments.

Thanks for your help!

The repaint catagory for vintage lures was a great idea, but seller who restore and repaint lures allot don't list their lures in the new catagory. The list them as real authentic vintage lures in the vintage lure catagory. Buyers are paying big bucks for touched up lures. Here is proof. This seller got so many complaints from NFLCC members she abanded her old account and made a new one. The 2nd lure below is bought with old account, sold with new account.

I ASK EBAY, can you make this misleading seller list her lures in the repaint catagory.

The first link is where they won bid, the 2nd link is her listing after restored, touched up, or repainted. I have many more examples links, here's just a couple.
