Is this an old fishing boat rod holder??

Was watching a show on TV and the rod holder on the boat looked pretty much like this mystery object I've had for several years. Does anyone know if this is actually an old boat rod holder for deep sea fishing? It is almost 4" tall and 4 1/2" wide at the top. It is rather heavy and may be made of brass. Thanks for any info!

Yes, it has a solid bottom. If it's not a holder, any idea as to what it is?

Probably not. Most rod holders have a hole in the bottom to drain. This looks very much like an apothecary's pestle used to grind medications in the old days. You're missing the mortar or grinding tool.

That is a Morter from a Morter and Pestle. Worth money.

Not a mortar.

Google search shows it a being a double handled spittoon.

Pretty valuable.
