Need advice please.......

I have a buyer asking if I can ship a semi-pricey shirt to the address of her son in another state (my state actually, she lives in MD).  Is there anyway to do this and protect myself?  She did ask over the eBay messages, so it's all on record.

Hi Imang,

I believe that she will need to add the other address to PayPal.  I can't remember if it has to be done before she pays or not.

One of the more knowledgeable PT's will be along shortly with more details - or you could just call PayPal and ask them - their CS seems to be quite a bit better than eBays.

Just have the buyer edit the Ship-to address when they checkout and pay.  That address will become the buyer's address on record with PayPal for that transaction.

Thanks guys!  She's a newbie with 11 FB's, so it's the blind leading the blind.  She had already paid BEFORE she asked.  So, I told her to go add the address into paypal.  Hopefully she can figure it out.  Thanks so much!

That's not going to work. You are covered by the seller protection policy if you ship to the address that is attached to the PayPal payment at the time that the payment is made. The only way to change it is to refund and re-pay.

Thanks Boston!  As it turns out, she didn't change the address and I shipped to MD.  She probably found out she'd have a 5% sales tax is she shipped to VA.

Good info to have for the future.

It is not possiblt to change the address that is attached to a PayPal transaction. The original name and address are part of the transaction.

She might had done as you suggested, adding the other name and address to her PayPal account, thinking that would be sufficient. Better check up on her expectations, if they aren't already clear.

A buyer asked me to do similar, explaining they had recently moved and their PayPal address was the old address. I refunded their money and told them to add their new address to PayPal and pay again.

Boston- I'll certainly message her!  Thanks!

Kansas- I'll keep that in mind for when...not if...I have this situation again.

With my buyer, I just flat-out told her I wasn't covered under PayPal seller protection if I shipped to a different address, and that I was sure she'd understand.

She came back and said she had no idea how the seller side worked, which didn't surprise me (a lot of buyers don't). And if she had been a seller, then she would have been trying to pull a fast one, I think. Sure it was only a $20 item, but hey. That's a few tasty lunches worth of money.

Kansas...you're my kind of girl.  I once had a car salesman trying to get me to pay more for a car and he said "It's only $20 extra a month".  This was back in the early 90's when $20 meant something.   I say back to him: "Hey, I hate to cook and that's two meals out!"  I got my way.

Even today.....$20 is a manicure.  Or maybe one decent meal out...or 3 crappy ones.  Anyway you look at, people trying to steal that sucks.
