The new ebay "top rated seller" stuff is causing me to get no sales!!

Oct 27, 2009 11:12 AM
I have been a ebay uesr for years now. I have a really good feedback score of over 1500 (all positive feedback)! Now because of the way items show up after a search, I am not making any sales. It used to be that if you offered free shipping, your item would come up near the top. Now I am still offering free shipping and the items are not selling because no one can find them.
Another thing is the auction listings are selling for more than I am asking on my "Buy it now". I can't get any views on my auctions because they are way down on the list. I don't really see any pattern to this madness anyway. I am finding sellers with lower feedback than me that have their items displayed near the top. I am just very confused with the whole new layout of ebay.
Ebay keeps getting worse and worse!

I checked the visibility of a relist item, cuz it didn't retain the 22 sold on it previously.

from the Seller Dashboard on the lower right you can enter an item number.

I was pleased to see it in the top of the list, not being a TRS just an ASS.

Other items I think I will need to lower prices on.

Don't allow these new programs to force you to not make any money.

Lowering your price will not improve your placement in a Best Match search.
Lowering your price will not necessarily increase your sales.
It will cause you not to have enough money to stay in business.

We understand how price wars work from our Social Studies class in elementary school.
If price is the deciding factor, the big-guy can run the little-guy outta business...
Then once the little-guy is gone, the big-guy raises prices to recoup the losses. Hence the buyer loses.

Anybody with "Eyes" and common sense can see that Most of the TRS folks have worse FB ratings than the Normal folks.
There are still people (like me) who intentionally avoid PowerSellers and TopRatedSellers, just on principle.

Looking at your stats you should have achieved Power Seller Status & A Top Seller Rating by now. On your Home Page wave your cursor over your Account tab & click on Seller Dashboard. There you will find your current status. Please stop back & let us know if somehing is amiss.

OMA. Thanks for the slap. I'm a TSR & I have 100% Positive FeedBack as does Katrina & many others.

Hey Kat... I was a PowerSeller for a whole three months!
Not all PowerSellers and TopRatedSellers are evil...
Just a healthy number of them.

My favorite complaint still stands....
A Small Seller gets one negative and his score goes down to 98%.
A PowerSeller can rip-off dozens of people and still have a 99.8% score.

With 100% FB, my listings always end-up on the fourth page of a Best Match search.
So when I see all these other small Sellers lowering their prices and compromising with buyers, I just need to point-out the obvious.

There is no need to compromise on your prices.
You won't be on the first page of a Best Match search anyway.
Don't let these buyers take advantage of you.
Take the hit. Open another ID.
It works for the buyers, it'll work for you.

Good for the goose... Good for the gander!

Congrats on the PS Kat... Congrats on the TRS Hondamedic.

Congrats on the PS Kat... Congrats on the TRS Hondamedic.

Tanks OMA!

I do agree that there ar many TRS that can hide Negs in volume just like there are many deadbeat bidders but most buyers are honest. Everyone stops here to complain about NPB's but when you count the number of successful auctions the have it's 2% of their total. Sorta like a B&M store that loses some inventory to theft. I certainly do not condone it!

i agree honda, with all the transactions i have done i think i had to open about 24 UPI cases. all but 1 never paid. when i open a case i pray they do not pay. almost everyone of them never responds to e-mails. my thinking is even though they know they are wrong for not paying on time. if you open a case against them they get mad! then they pay and likely will leave a NEG. oh, and remember that transaction where my item was returned because the post office claimed the buyer had no forwarding address? well we took the item back to the post office and showed them there mistake from the link you provided me about the addresses. they reshipped the item and the buyer received it and we got a great feedback! thanks for your help hondamedic!

No problemo! As a seller you went the extra mile & you got a buyer that appreciated it. Karma!

Ebay is making more profit on failed auctions than they ever have — you are part of the new Ebay business plan. Keep up the good work.

Sadly, I think Audioguise is 100% Correct. It's a win/win situation for eBay in many ways.

You lose your listing fee if your item doesn't sell the second time around, you lose your listing fees to a NPB and you lose your listing fees if a Buyer wants to cancel the transaction or wants a refund for any ridiculous reason.

eBay is so big, they have little concern for the success of their Sellers anymore. Regardless... they still get a nice fat paycheck in the end.

I've been registered with ebay for about 2 years but just started selling in the last 6 weeks. I've sold quite a bit but am getting really discouraged that I have to list items 2 to 3 times and pay all those fees before they sell. When they finally sell, ebay is holding my payments on the large dollar items for 21 days or until I get positive feedback on the items.

I've also noticed that when I list a fixed price, it seems to sell faster than an auction style but ebay gets a bigger fee,12% of the selling price. The fees are just too high.

Hi superior-quality4les.. & welcome to The Part Timers Forum!

Well, what are your alternatives? There are many other auction sites but the traffic is much lower. As many of your items are NIB you could sell them over at "The River". If you feel fees are high increase your starting price to compensate. Your first re-list should be free but if you're forced to re-list again increase the starting price. Before you list do an Advanced Search for completed auction of your item & see what it's max selling price is & set your BIN at that level.

There is no reason to whine at fees. If you owned a B&M store you have fixed costs that you would have to pay to keep the buisness afloat, it's the same here.

Good luck!
