Paypal fraud

Nov 3, 2009 9:12 AM
I have used paypal for years to pay for items on ebay. Currently I have a balance in my account and they will not return the money to my checking account. They limit it to $500.00 a month saying my social security number doesn't match my name which it has for over 40 years. Management and customer service was rude and unhelpful. Paypal and ebay are acting in a fraudulent way holding funds that are not theirs when they have several years of history of my name, account information and the highest rating as a buyer.

I will never use paypal or ebay again.

Have you checked how your name is registered with paypal to see if it exactly matches what's on your ss card? SS verification is done online now, and I can see how a nickname ("jim" instead of 'james") or even a character mismatch could cause an error.

If it's not too late you can also request PayPal to issue a check for the amount of money in your account.

Link. Withdrawing Money.

6. Withdrawing Money.

6.1 How to Withdraw Money. You may withdraw funds by electronically transferring them to your bank account, requesting a physical check through the mail (U.S. Users only), or using your PayPal Debit Card (eligible Users only). Generally, we will send checks only to Confirmed Addresses, unless you have a Verified Account. We will not send checks to P.O. Boxes. If you would like us to send a check to an address that does not meet these criteria, you must contact Customer Service and provide the documentation that we request to verify your association with the address. If you fail to cash a check within 180 Days of the date of issuance, we will return the funds to your Balance (minus a Fee).

6.2 Withdrawal Limits. Depending on the degree to which you have Verified your Account, we may limit you to withdrawing no more than $500.00 USD per month. You can view your withdrawal limit, if any, by logging into your Account and clicking on the "View Limits" link on the "Account Overview". In addition, we may delay withdrawals of large sums of money while we screen for risk.

6.3 Withdrawing Money in Multiple Currencies. If you have multiple currencies in your Balance, you will be able to choose from those when you withdraw funds, but the withdrawal will take place in your home currency.

What's you SSN got to do with either PayPal, or your bank account? I mean...WTF do they do for ILLEGAL ALIENS, who have no SSN? If you have a confirmed bank account, that should be enough for PayPig...they're only making a DEPOSIT and anyone can put money INTO your account, no Q's asked.

They are full of crap. they do not need your SSN to make a deposit!
Call them and tell them you are contacting the BBB etc. Then, when you get your money back, find a new payment service.

What's you SSN got to do with either PayPal, or your bank account?

Under The Patriot Act, many financial institutions are required to identify their customers, which regularly includes checking the ss#.

And wouldn't that be a great thing for money laundering drug dealers and terrorists. Move money around without bothering with things like proper ID.

Brilliant.

Proper ID won't bother a scammer, money launderers, drug dealers and terrorists... I think they've already figured that one out... It's stolen ID's.

Maybe you mistyped when you entered your social security number. Call PayPal and ask them if your SSN is the same as what they have on file for you.

Also check the name on your PayPal account and the name on your SSN card... are they the same?

Paypal is not a financial institution - they are a money tranfer service (for a fee) and suddenly withholding funds from the customer smacks of shady business practice and greed more than anything else.
